Kemp steps in
Drafted in as a replacement
for top seed Adrian Grant, who was forced to withdraw injured
during his opening match,
Jon Kemp
made the most of his first appearance in the BSPA Elite series,
winning both his matches to top the group, then beating the
in-form Scot Alan Clyne in a five-game final in Ilkley.
The points are sufficient to take Clyne to the
top of the rankings though, at the
half-way point of the season.
Day One:
Clyne continues to impress
Scottish number one Alan Clyne continued to impress on
day one of the eighth Elite Series event in Ilkley. Winner
last week in Manchester, Clyne opened up with an increasingly
assured win over Neil Hitchens, then took control of group A
with a four-game win over Simon Parke, the
recently-married former world number three making his debut in
the series.
A third win on Tuesday will see Clyne into the final, and at the
top of the rankings.
Group B was thrown wide open when top seed Adrian Grant,
the world number ten, retires injured at one game all against
Shaun Le Roux. World number 30 Jonathan Kemp stepped in at
short notice and managed to tie the group up with a 3-1 win over
second seed Scott Handley, leaving three players on one
win and all to play for tomorrow.
