Wed 18th April, Day ONE: Qualifying Begins

The 7th Edition of #ELGOUNASQUASH got under way today with 32 qualifying round one matches at the El Gouna Squash Complex.

Fifteen of the sixteen players seeded to make it through to the main draw won, in contrasting fashions, the biggest upset coming when Ahmed Hosny upset eithth seeded Malaysian Eain Yow Ng in five games, making it six Egyptian through to tomorrow's qualifying finals.

Top seeds Karim Ali Fathi and Lucas Serme were both well tested, while Youssef Soliman, Nathan Lake and Mahesh Mangaonkar also needed five games to get through.

No major upsets in the Women's matches, but a few close scares and performance of the day form Jana Shiha as she beat 10th seed Hollie Naugfhton in five games, boosting the Egyptian presence in qualifying finals to four.

Other notable wins for Malaysian juniors Sivasangari Subramaniam and Rachel Arnold, and tough five game victories for Julianne Courtice and Fiona Moverley.
