Fri 7th April - Round ONE, Top:
Afternoon marathons prelude
to Egyptian hat-trick on glass court
After
two days of qualifying it was on to the top half of the main
draws - a dozen matches at the El Gouna Squash Centre this
afternoon, and four on the Glass Court tonight.
There were no upsets in the women's draw as all six seeded
players - including 8-time champion Nicol David -
progressed in straight games, but there was plenty of drama in
the men's matches as Cameron Pilley and James
Willstrop both won marathon five-setters, and qualifier
Mazen Hesham continued his comeback with a great win over
compatriot Tarek Momen.
The evening session on the glass court started with three
Egyptian winners as top seeds Nour El Sherbini and
Mohamed Elshobagy won as did Nouran Gohar, and the
day was rounded off by world #1 Gregory Gaultier taking
out wildcard Marwan Tarek. |
