Thu 6th Apr - Day TWO, Qualifying Finals:
Half a dozen for Egypt
Eight
places in each of the main draws were claimed today in the #ElGounaSquash
qualifying finals with hosts Egypt taking three of each.
In the women's draw
Hana Ramadan,
Rowan Elaraby and
Hania El Hammamy boosted home interest, but the biggest
upset came as Japan's
Misaki Kobayashi beat fourth seed Mayar Hany.
Mazen Hesham,
Mohamed Reda and
Karim Ali Fathi provided home success in the men's
matches, with Reda and Fathi both beating seeded opponents, as
did Germany's
Raphael Kandra as he beat fifth seed Alan Clyne in the
last match of the day.
The main draw placings - including a 'lucky loser' spot in the
men's after the withdrawal of Ramy Ashour - were made at the
opening reception. Highlight was probably the pairing of Simon
Rosner, the only seeded player due to play a qualifier, drawing
compatriot Raphael Kandra!

Wed 5th Apr - Day ONE
Qualifying under way in El
Gouna
Qualifying
began at the new El Gouna Squash Centre today - amazingly
put together in just three months -with 32 first round matches,
16 in each of the Orascom Development Women's World Championship
and the Men's El Gouna International world series.
There was plenty of home interest, of course, with victories for
six Egyptian men and seven Egyptian women. The English men's
contingent fared well too, with three of their number
progressing to the qualifying finals.
Both seeding upsets on the men's side came from Egyptians, as
Mazen Gamal finally got a win over Wales' Joel Makin,
and Youssef Ibrahim prevailed in a tense five-setter
against Karim El Hammamy in the
match of the day.
In the women's matches three seeds fell, all beaten by Egyptians
as
Hana Moataz,
Amina Yousry and
Rowan Elaraby all scored significant wins.
