Guyana retain the overall team title ... Cayman second, T&T third

Individual U19 Champions

The Presentation Party

Thu 15th, Team Finals

After five days of frenetic action there's only one match left to play for all the teams.

From 9am we have, would you believe, six simultaneous matches to determine third to eighth spots in the Boys' and Girls' competitions, then at 11am both finals kick off simultaneously, with Guyana hoping to retain both titles, against Cayman in the Boys and Jamaica in the girls ...

Cayman take their title ...
Hat-trick for Guyana

Everyone knew the first match of the Boys' Final was vital, as in the host's pool win over the defending champions they won the both U19 ties and the U13, losing heavily in the other two, so if Cayman were to have a chance of their first title Alex Frazer had to win.

No-one had told Deje Dias the script though, as the Guyanese number one went two games up, bringing worried looks to the Cayman team and supporters. He came within two points of taking it three-nil as well, but Alex seemed to grow stronger as the match progressed, edging the third and maintaining leads throughout the fourth and fifth to give Cayman their dream start.

Next up were the U13s, with Cayman's Iain McCallum, top seed in the individuals, up against the plucky Patrick Fraser. Patrick pushed Iain close in the second, but Iain was well in control for the most part, taking Cayman one win away from a historic win.

That left it up to individual champion Cameron Stafford, who has been unbeaten at this level for over a year now, and he duly wrapped up the title with a straight games win over Alex Arjoon.

To be honest I didn't see it, I'd popped over to the other courts to the the last half of the last game of the T&T v Bermuda 3/4 decider, and when that finished I went back to to the main court to hear "match ball" ! Quick work, Cameron, but not quick enough to avoid his onrushing team-mates who buried him in the middle of the court ...

True to form Jean-Claude Jeffrey and Jason Ray Khalil wrapped up the dead rubbers for Guyana to make the final result 3-2.

So Cayman Boys take their first-ever CASA team title, emulating the Girls' team which won their title in 1986 in St Vincent.

Three for Guyana Girls

The all-conquering Guyana Girls duly wrapped up their third team title in a row, beating Jamaica 4-1, their only blip being when individual U13 champion Alyssa Mullings levelled the match at one-all after Keisha Jeffrey had given Guyana the lead.

It was only a minor hiccup though, as Ashley Khalil restored the lead, Victoria Arjoon made it safe, and Mary Fung-a-Fat applied the coup de grace as Guyana won 4-1.
