Welcome |
On
behalf of the Cayman Islands National Squash Association, I am
pleased to welcome the athletes, team personnel and spectators
to the annual Junior Caribbean Squash Championships.
This event would not have been possible without the generous
sponsorship of all the sponsors. This year title sponsor is
Walker, we thank them.
I would like to thank the Department of Tourism for their
continued support of Squash and Sports Tourism in the Cayman
Islands. We thank the many sponsors, volunteers, South Sound
Squash club and the Tournament Director Daniel Kneipp who worked
diligently over the past few months to make this event possible.
We
have approximately 150 juniors from 8 different countries
participating in the Walkers 2010 Junior Caribbean Squash
Championships and spectators, we welcome you to our islands and
we hope that you enjoy our hospitality during the course of your
stay with us.
May old friendship be renewed, new friendship be made and the
spirit of sportsmanship live on during and after this
tournament.

Colleagues
and Friends of Squash:
I am very pleased to have this opportunity, as President of the
Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA), to congratulate CINSA
for hosting this year's Junior Caribbean Squash Championships
and to thank the players and officials from across the Caribbean
region for participating in such large numbers. This will be the
fourth major squash event that has been held in Grand Cayman
over the past 15 months and the organizing committee and all the
wonderful sponsors and volunteers are thanked for all the
assistance and all the hard work put in to ensure that all these
events, and especially this year's Junior CASA Championships,
run smoothly.
On behalf of the CASA Executive I would also like to thank the
organizing committee for also making an adjustment in the
tournament schedule to ensure
that there was no clash of dates involving this event and the
squash competition at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC)
Games in Bogota, Colombia. It is very encouraging to see that
once again, junior players will make up the core of several
national senior teams. This trend augers well for the future of
Caribbean squash.
I
close by wishing each and every player the best of luck.
Tournaments like this will allow you the opportunity to meet
people from across region and to form bonds of friendship that
can last your entire life. I hope you will enjoy your stay in
the Cayman Islands.
Play hard, but play true!

Here
in the Cayman Islands we are once again privileged to host the
Junior Caribbean Squash Championships. With 150 top-class
competitors from across the region playing on our home courts,
we will doubtless witness a multitude of exciting playoffs as
old rivalries gain new life and new ones emerge.
But
there is more, for hosting players from eight Caribbean nations
also reminds us that sport’s common goals serve to bind us
together. Whether we play or simply watch, sports inspire and
motivate through its universal language: Train with
perseverance, compete with honour and win – or lose – with
grace.
And so to all the players who will face off in the 2010 Junior
Caribbean Championships, I wish you the best of luck, inspired
play and healthy competition. And to the squash enthusiasts, I
hope you fill the stands every day, cheering on and supporting
the contenders.
Finally, my congratulations to the Cayman Islands Squash Club!
You have again done a fine job in arranging a top-notch event.
Your commitment to the development of our young squash players
is laudable and the Islands are certainly blessed to have such a
dedicated sport organization.

Minister of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture

On
behalf of the government and the people of the Cayman Islands, I
am delighted to welcome the best male and female junior squash
players in the Caribbean region to our shores to participate in
the 2010 Junior Caribbean Championships.
Squash
is a lifestyle sport for all ages and here in the Cayman Islands
we have seen the rise of three Caribbean Junior champions in the
last three years, including former Caribbean junior champions
Samantha Hennings and Chantelle Day, and have the top ranked
Under 19 male player in Cameron Stafford.
Having attained such notable achievements, it is my hope that
many more of our youth will be encouraged to actively
participate in this most enjoyable sport at a recreational
level, if not competitively.
The 2010 Junior Caribbean Championships would not have been
possible without the tremendous efforts of the Cayman Islands
National Squash Association, the South Sound Squash Club and the
support of the many sponsors who graciously stepped up to the
plate in these difficult economic times to join the Department
of Tourism in sponsoring this event. We gratefully acknowledge
your generosity and hope you will continue to partner with us in
the future.
I wish all of the players an exciting tournament with closely
fought matches, played in a spirit of fair play.
Again, it is my pleasure to welcome every one of our guests, and
assure each of you that Cayman’s hospitality will have you leave
us in good spirits, regardless of the outcome of the matches to
follow.
With warm regards,
Hon. Cline Glidden

Welcome to the 2010 Junior Caribbean Championships.
To
those of you visiting the Cayman Islands for the first time, I
am delighted to welcome you to our shores and trust that you
will love our home as much as we do. To our residents, thank you
for your continued support for the sport of squash.
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism has long been aware of
the benefits to be gained from sports tourism and as such, we
endeavour to support local sporting events in new and innovative
ways. Such events allow us an opportunity to showcase our
natural beauty and cultural traditions to a worldwide audience
and we value the considerable economic and community benefits
that are derived.
The Junior Caribbean Championships, the Caribbean’s pinnacle
junior squash event, was last hosted in the Cayman Islands in
2004, and it is my pleasure to warmly welcome the junior squash
players who have travelled from nine different Caribbean
countries to compete against Cayman’s finest junior players.
While here in Grand Cayman, I invite you to visit the many
attractions and historic sites that the island has to offer. Our
greatest attractions, however, are what make the Cayman Islands
truly special – our people, heritage and culture.
To all players, I wish you the best of luck and a fun and
exciting tournament.
With warm regards,
Mr. Shomari Scott
Director of Tourism (Acting)
