OECS
& Jamaican delight
Little Faith Gillezeau was always
going to be up against it physically against top seed Alyssa
Mullings, and so it generally proved. Faith, egged on by the T&T
faiuthful threatened to take the second but Alyssa snuffed out
the danger and eased ahead in the third to take the title.
The Boys final was a cracking little battle, going one way and
then the other with both boys giving their all. In the end
though it was the youngster from St Vincent fought back from 2-1
down to disappoint the home crowd, but my oh my weren't his
supporters, quite deservedly, overjoyed .... |

U15 Finals |

U15G [1]
Victoria Arjoon (Guy) bt [2] Charlotte Knaggs (T&T)
12/10, 13/11, 11/6
U15B [2] Jean Claude Jeffrey (Guy) bt [5/8] Nku
Patrick (T&T)
11/8, 8/11, 11/8, 4/11, 11/2
Jean
Claud ends Nku's run
It was good while it lasted, but
little Nku Patrick would have needed to beat the top two seeds
to complete a remarkable run. He came close too, taking Jean
Claud Jeffrey all the way to a decider, but it was the Guyanese
who had more left in the tank as he closed out the match.
Victoria Arjoon had sailed through to the final with a series of
impressive wins, and although Charlotte Knaggs came
tantalisingly close to extending the match, the top seed pulled
out the stops when it mattered, taking the first two games on
extra points before easing to victory in the third. |

U17 Finals |

|
U17B [1]
Noah Browne (Ber) bt [2] Jason Ray Khalil (Guy)
11/9, 11/9, 8/11, 11/8
U17G [1] Mary Fung-A-Fat (Guy) bt [3/4] Kristina Myren (Cay)
11/9, 11/6, 13/11
Top
seeds Triumph
The Boys U17 final was a real
nailbiter, with significant involvement from the referees. Noah
Brown had the height advantage, but struggled to make it tell
against a resilient Jason Ray Khalil. The Guyanese led in every
game, but couldn't close them out, letting slip an 8-3 lead in
the second turned out to be crucial.
Mary Fung-A-Fat claimed her fourth CASA title, but the top seed
weas certainly made to work for it by an opponent who seemed to
rise to the atmosphere. Had she managed to take a game ball in
the third things might have been different, but we'll never
know, will we ... |
U19 Finals |
|
U19G
[2] Ashley Khalil (Guy) bt [1] Keisha Jeffrey (Guy)
11/4, 11/5, 6/11, 11/7
U19B [1] Cameron Stafford (Cay) bt [2] Micah Franklin (Ber)
10/12, 11/8, 11/8, 11/9
Ashley does the Double,
Cameron seals the deal ...
Beating
one Jeffrey is hard enough, beating two is phenomenal, and
Ashley Khalil deserved this title after another gritty
performance. She was fast out of the blocks, capitalising on
apparent nerves from Keisha who couldn't get into it for the
first two games. She recovered to take the third, but Ashley was
quickly 6-0 up in the third, and although Keisha forced her way
back to 7-all Ashley was in no mood to let this one go.
Cameron Stafford was Cayman's last, and best, hope of a title,
and he duly delivered with a solid performance over the the
talented and spirited Mica Richards. The Bermudian took the
first and was on Cameron's tail for the next three games, but
this win was written in the stars, and Cameron duly delivered.
