Jamaica
Girls
Brooke
Burrowes
This is a year of transition for Brooke, her final year of
Junior CASA but her first away at boarding school in the US. She
has handled it all admirably well and we look to see how she
deals with her final year at the Junior level.
Lauren
Mahfood
Lauren too has transitioned to the boarding school system
abroad. She of all the “transitioners” (those away at boarding
school) is arguably playing the most squash. It is will be
interesting to see how her game has developed over the year.
Jessica
Perkins
Jessica is the final “transitioner” and the youngest. She had a
hard time adjusting initially, both physically and mentally, to
being away but she has settled in beautifully at school and has
matured impressively.
Kerri-Anne
Bell
After a year away from Junior CASA, Kerri-Anne has committed
herself to improving her game, despite her great love of
dancing. She continues to time manage very well between dancing
and squash and her improvement over the year is quite good.
Erika Robertson
Erika is the newest member of the Jamaica Junior team. She is
also away at school but has been away longer than the other
girls. She is a recent convert to squash from tennis and we look
forward to her first Junior CASA tournament.
Dana
Saulter
Dana has worked amazingly hard this year to make the Jamaica
team and her hard work has borne fruit. Dana’s size belies her
great power. She is also the most athletic girl on the Jamaica
team. She has amazing talent that is waiting to be tapped.
Mary
Mahfood
Mary is stepping up in age-group after conquering U13s last
year. Mary’s power, athleticism, and drive are remarkable in one
so young and we anticipate a really good tournament for her.
Alyssa
Mullings
After Mary and Dana, Alyssa the youngest on the team is another
strong hitter of the ball. She had her first Junior CASA last
year and had a wonderful experience, finishing in the top 4, and
is looking to improve on that finish this year.
Boys
David
Lawrence
This too is David’s final year at Junior CASA. He is off to his
true passion, Culinary School in RI. Hopefully he will keep up
his squash which has shown remarkable improvement over the year.
Stephen
Reid
“Sterbz” is the Chelsea man and is looking to win the U19 title
like his Chelsea men did in the EPL this year. Sterbz is mature,
reliable and dependable. He has worked very hard to improve his
game.
Stephan
Miller
He is by far the most athletic person on the team. He has
resolved to work on his squash game this year and the results
are showing. Junior CASA 2009 was his first and I’m sure that
the experience from that will help him to improve his results
and create a few upsets in 2010.
Josh
Mahfood
Josh has moved up in age-group but he too realizes that hard
work trumps talent any day. This resolve has only helped his
game reach another level and he is also looking to make his mark
in the U17 boys.
Ashante
Smith
Some of you might know Ashante from Junior CASA 2006 but he had
a break as other interests took hold of him. He has re-dedicated
himself to the sport and we hope he will stick with it for a
long time. His athleticism and quickness are great assets on the
court.
Julian
Morrison
Julian plays more squash than anyone else on the team and he can
be seen on the court by himself always. This dedication and love
of the game will only serve him well. Though the “class clown”
sometimes, his entire attitude to hard work has changed and he
is not afraid to push himself past his limits.
Jake
Mahfood
Jake is our next graduate to a higher division. After
successfully copping the U13 title in 2009, Jake’s move to U15
has been a smooth transition. His drive, determination, and
competitiveness make him a dream to coach. He is like a sponge
soaking up all that is offered.
David
Mullings
Another quick and athletic player, David is so laid-back that
his opponents underestimate him, much to their detriment. He has
improved leaps and bounds this year and I anticipate him making
a good run and creating some surprises in the draw.
Cameron
Anderson
Cameron has been to a Junior CASA before but as a spectator when
his sister participated in 2008. Though squash competes with
swimming, he has really improved within the last few months and
is really focused on taking his game to the next level. We look
forward to see how he handles the competition.
