Trio of upsets
at St George's
as Selby takes out top seed Shorbagy
After two days of qualifying, it was time for
the world's best to take to the Glass Court at St George's Hill
LTC, with four matches in the top half of the PSA $100k draw.
It
was a dramatic opening too, with the first three matches all
producing upsets -including a massive one.
Spain's Borja Golan, the seventh seed who plays PSL for St
George's, was playing his first match for three months, and
looked a little rusty as he lost in four games to India's
Saurav Ghosal, who was obviously delighted with his first
ever win over Golan.
Kiwi
qualifier Paul Coll was delighted with his five-game win
over Hong Kong's Max Lee, coming from one-two down to claim his
biggest quarter-final spot to date.
An even bigger upset was to follow as Daryl Selby - a
former St George's PSL player - got the better of world number
one and top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy it a brutal five game
encounter.
A semblance of order was restored as fourth-seeded Colombian
Miguel Rodriguez beat Greg Marche to conclude the evening,
although the French qualifier pushed Rodriguez close in all
three games.
