WORST
IS BEST AFTER ALL...
So
let’s see, I don’t really believe an athlete has a “worst”
squash memory.
I like to think each athlete has those many many dark moments
and losses throughout their careers that somehow only end up
being another motive for them to push themselves harder and to
achieve better things. When one falls the only way is up they
say or so I like to think.
So I’ve had so many points throughout my career where I thought
this is it, it’s the end of the world, but realised after it’s
not, not at all.
So
of all my bad results I have to say that I believe the one that
had the most effect on me was
back in 2009 when I was playing in Alexandria my hometown I
was up 2-0 and 10-5/6 match ball up and I lost the match.
I came off that court with the intention of never getting back
on court again.
I spent almost a month (it didn’t help that it was summer :D)
doing nothing but going out, spending EVERY DAY with my family
and friends doing absolutely nothing but having a great time.
That might have been the best summer of my life. I just didn’t
care. My coaches would call me to get back on court and I would
say “I’m not ready”.
I
had to go to the
World Games (the Federation had already sent my name and
paid for my ticket) I lost
in 3 games in no time, I still didn’t care.
But when I came back I had decided that was it, I believe that
was a changing point in my life, I had decided Squash IS what I
want to do for the rest of my life.
That summer changed my life forever!
So ya looking back I don’t see it as a bad memory at all might
have even been the best I just didn’t now it back then... |
