I remember the
European Juniors 2012
Winning the European Junior Title against good friend
Tom Ford after suffering a severe blister in the semi final
which left me unable to walk properly in the morning of the
final.
I was taken to an orthopaedic physician who made a special
insole for me to move the weight of my foot away from the sole
where the blister was, I was then sent to the hospital where the
doctor told me I had a friction burn which would take 3 weeks to
heal, and he then laughed at me when I said I was playing that
evening!!!
With strong anaesthetic prescribed I got back to the club an
hour and a half after the final was supposed to be, given the
time spent at the hospital, and ended up playing the best I had
all week albeit in some discomfort against my good mate...
... And also
the World Cup
Losing
the deciding rubber in the semi finals of the under 21 team
World Cup in Chennai.
England were seeded 2 but came out of our group in second and so
drew Egypt in the semi final. Charles Sharpes went on
first at number 1 string and lost a close four games to
Marwan Elshorbagy before Emily Whitlock then put in
an unbelievable performance to beat Nour el Tayeb at
number 3 string in 3 games to level the match.
Playing inside a huge shopping mall with over 3000 people
watching on, I lost in 3 to Karim Abdel Gawad and we
ended the tournament with bronze medals.
Both experiences are the only two times I've been brought to
tears following a squash match and both for opposite reasons!
