26-Mar, FINALS:
Massaro and Gaultier crowned
British Open Champions at the Airco
Last
year's finals were both all-Egyptian, but the defending
champions were beaten on a dramatic semi-finals day as three
English players made it through to the finals, for the first
time since 1956.
A
home winner was guaranteed in the women's final, and Laura
Massaro repeated her victory over Sarah-Jane Perry in last
month's British Nationals final to claim a second BO title.
Nick Matthew started out well in his bid for a fourth title and
an English double, but towards the end of the first game
Gregory Gaultier started to gain control of the match, and
he carried that control into the next three games to claim his
third BO title, and to regain the world number one position come
April.
