City Hall Challenger Estarreja 2014
23-28 Sep, Portugal, $5k |
28-Sep, Final
Joel Hinds was the big winner of the 2014 edition of the PSA
Challenger ESTARREJA. In the final Joel Hinds defeat
Tom Ford by 3-0 with score 11/7; 11/9; 11/8!
The
day start with the announced semis between Tom Ford V Alex Ingham
in which Tom won by 3-1 with score 11/9; 11/7; 6/11 and 11/5! Tom
was trying to lead a match to a 3-0 simple but actually very
committed Alex not only created difficulties during the games with
very long rallies, and managed to win one of the games!
Simultaneously, Joel Hinds defeated the French Geoffrey
Demont by 3-0 with score 11/7; 11/6 and 11/2!
Geoffrey
notoriously tired of these three intense weeks (Victory in Romania,
runner up in Anadia and semi-finals here in Estarreja), turned out
to have no arguments to counter a very effective Joel!
So if you guessed that the mental part of the late afternoon would
be decisive and of course the audience wanted to see a well fought
match!
By 17h00 with very well composed stands, there were announced the
finalists and everyone eagerly awaited the show deserved and
desired! Joel and Tom, made it clear they wanted the trophy and
that in fact we would have epic battle!
First game with intense rallies and eager finalist in not giving
each other space! Joel suddenly began to attack more effectively and
Tom with some unforced errors ended up losing by 11/7!
Effective break and into a more effective Tom and more determined in
their actions! Joel was enduring all the pressure at the right time
and after almost 20 minutes, once again managed to get Tom to commit
unforced errors and secure the second game in its favour with the
final 11/9!
In the third game, though once again and Tom balance the result
until the win at 6/8, eventually leaving Joel to five unanswered
points and so we find the winner of the tournament by winning the
third game by 11/8!
It was indeed an emotional final and I'm sure that everyone present
loved watching the show!
We passed immediately to the Awards Ceremony in which after
presented - (Deputy Mayor of Estarreja - Eng Adolfo Vidal,
Vice-President of the National Federation Squash Dr. Luís
Carvalho. Dr. Jose Soares da PORTUGAL PSA CLOSED & CHALLENGER
SQUASH -. PPCCS and Eng Norberto Monteiro's Estarreja
Squash Club), athletes received their awards and Joel Hinds on
behalf of the athletes, highlighted the good organization, his
happiness of winning in Estarreja, the pleasure of having faced in
the final Tom and the fact Estarreja and all you have provided a
good week!
Dr. Luís Carvalho thanked the joint organization that the
Federation to cooperate on the same, the fact that they made these
events together, also the success of Clinical Training and Referee
and their desire that these events with tourism if repeat next year!
The Eng. Adolfo Vidal, highlighted the fact Estarreja welcome
and take great pride in hosting the tournament PSA and above all the
reality of knowing that everyone was happy with the organization
Finally Eng. Norberto Monteiro, highlighted the fact that he
was very happy to see so many Eatarreja friends in the public during
these six days and that is their wish that this PSA Tournament
motivate them to do all grow squash in Estarreja.
Thus ended this event and of course this set of PSA's!
It was indeed gratifying to take PPCCS PSA tournaments Anadia and
Estarreja and above all provide local and our young people these
great experiences. Support Tourism Center, sponsors, and Federation
of Municipalities and Anadia Estarreja were crucial and fundamental
to achieving these Challengers and we are already working on 2015!
I do not finish without confess to you that I already miss this job
I held in conjunction with Dr. José Soares in recent months, but we
were both with real conviction that this feeling will help us also
and with more determination to work already in 2015 events !
Until the PSA Challenger ESTARREJA 2015. A hug to everyone

27-Sep, Quarters:
The day starts with the second phase of Training Clinical for junior
athletes with PSA players! The athletes made the most of this
training session which for some was the fourth occasion!
Rui Soares made a very good match and hardworking, but
unfortunately ended up not achieving the desired semi-final! He was
defeated by the English Alex Ingham by 3-0 with the score
14/16, 4/11 and 10/12!
The first three seeds still in competition!
At 17h00 begins to see the benches of the two Squash courts
Municipality of Estarreja literally full!
Carlos Cornes was defeated by English Joel Hinds by
3-1 and Geoffrey Demont defeated Chris Fuller 3-0 in the only
onsided match of the afternoon!
Then .... well ... then went to see the benches and all supporting
Rui! Ran simultaneously the Tom Ford and Michael Harris
match, in which Tom won 3-1, but all eyes were focused on Rui!
First very balanced game with several game balls for both players,
but Alex to be happier and more effective in the finals rallies and
win by 16/14! In the second game Rui felt too much "weight" of
responsibility and Alex became very effective! In the third game
turned more concentrated and returned to conquer space and cherished
the hope of the Portuguese supporters!
Unfortunately the 10/7 was not enough and Alex with a sequence of
five unanswered points eventually quit the Match in your favour!
So
tomorrow at 11,00H ... warn ... 11 00H!!! We have the following
semi-finals, Alex Ingham V Tom Ford and Geoffrey Demont V Joel Hinds
So no more Portuguese hope in the Tournament but with the firm
conviction and certainty that tomorrow will attend fantastic
matches! I repeat, with the semifinals at 11h00 and then by 17h00
great final for which I invite everyone to be present!
Straight after the Awards Ceremony which will be present in the
Municipality of Estarreja , the National Squash Federation and wish
you all!
It's all for today from Estarreja, a hug

26-Sep, Round Two,
Rui Soares beat Dani Martinez Pascual 3-1 and secured the
quarterfinal of Professional Tournament in Estarreja! He faces
tomorrow at 18h00 the English Alex Ingham!
Another day with great level of squash! Matches played with
rallies breathtaking part of the amazing athletes!
At 17h00 we saw Carlos Corneso win the English Jim Bamber by 3-1!
Simultaneously Joel Hinds easily defeats the Spaniard Bernat Jaume
3-0.
In the 18h00 matches Chris Fuller easily defeated the Finn Jaakko
Vähämaa by 3-0. Geoffrey Demont had to fight hard to eliminate
Angus Gillams 3-1!
At
19h00 the Estarreja balcony’s courts were small to receive the
public! Rui was actually supported by a large phalanx of public and
Dani assumed it was decisive in the pressure on him! First game very
effective and Rui imposed easily 11/4.
Then he had to learn to be patient and determined to fight and win
by 11/8. In the third game Dani has done a few changes in is game!
Attacked effectively and managed to take the game to the fourth game
to win by 6/11. In the fourth game, with strong public support,
despite the permanent balance, Rui managed to be effective and
masterfully won by 11/8!
Thus assured the quarterfinals where they will face Ingham that won
with difficulty the Spanish Edmon Lopez Moller by 3-1!
Finally at 20h00 a quick but hard fought match between Michael
Harris and Julian Tomlinson Harris won 3-0. In the last match of the
day, Tom Ford defeated Mark Fuller by 3-1! Demanding but actually
starting Ford was always more effective and at the right times
attacked with more determination!
This was the squash day in Estarreja! Very good squash with the
additional terms of a special starting tomorrow! I know we have a
lot of reasons to visit the city of Estarreja but tomorrow our
support Rui can be decisive!

25-Sep, Round One,
PSA ESTARREJA CHALLENGER 2014 - DAY 3
Another day of intense competition and matches with a determined
fight! Estarreja never saw this quality squash and the local public
has and will continue to take the time to watch the games as very
well spent! So far the Top Seeds remain in competition and ensure
another round of high level tomorrow!
Starting at 14, 00H athletes gave everyone great moments of Squash!
There were several matches with outcome after three games ... but
even those were played with great intensity and partial very close!
Highlighting the matches in which the Portuguese were in action!
The benches were very full and Pedro Damaso not lost for lack
of support! Faced a very effective Chris Fuller but that
seems slightly injured! Chris was the winner of the PSA from Porto
in last November but Pedro fought and tried his best to balance the
rallies! Despite the final 3-0, still managed an interesting game a
8/11, but in reality the progress of Chris was superior!
After the 18, 00H Claudio Pinto faced and was defeated by 3-1
by the English Alex Ingham! Interestingly also a finalist of
PORTO CUP PSA 2013! The score 4/11, 12/10, 7/11, 7/11 and a duration
of 84 minutes prove there except the first game Claudio determined
and fought many times not only evened the match as his features
turned on! However in the third and fourth game, admittedly Alex
could wear Cláudio along them and attacking effectively went on to
win the match!
By 19, 00H Rui Soares ensured passage to the next round as
the Lucky Loser defeated Rui Ferreira (Russian!). The partial
11/4, 11/3 and 11/5 make it clear that at no time Soares left Rui
Ferreira react and so tomorrow will face Spaniard Dani Pascual
Martinez!
Rui can afford to make a good tournament! The reality of the
withdrawal of the first seeded the Czech Jan Koukal, it can open a
window of opportunity here that a focused and committed Rui can just
enjoy!
By 21, 00H started the last two matches! Michael Harris won
against the French Masotti by 3-1 and efficient Julian Tomlinson
defeated by 3-2 Sam Ellis, after being losing 2-1!
During the afternoon we had the presence TV PORTO CHANNEL,
who devoted some minutes to film the event. We'll keep you informed
when the report will be aired, as it is guaranteed one more way to
promote this event!
So challenge all in attendance tomorrow from 17, 00H in Swimming
Pool Complex and Leisure of Estarreja because the matches tomorrow
will be even better than assisted today! Rui faces at 19, 00H Dani
Pascual and we hoppe have a full house!
That's all for today from Estarreja, a hug

25-Sep, Qualifying finals
PSA ESTARREJA CHALLENGER 2014 - DAY 2
Hello everyone
The final matches of the qualification Draw were actually what was
predicted! Intense struggle and the will to reach the main part of
this professional tournament in Estarreja!
Unfortunately the seed nº1 the Czech Jan Koukal for injury reason
withdraw but in reality we know that tomorrow there will be many
battles to watch!
The day began with a visit to the Town Hall and the Welcome Ceremony
at City Hall Estarreja chaired by Mayor Dr. Diamantino Sabina.
Above all it was made clear that the City is very pleased that we
have a representation of 15 countries and in fact Estarreja want to
know and welcome all! Sure the Squash can and will certainly
continue to be a sport that the City Hall sees as a means of
motivating the local population and claimed to know that this PSA
event will provide leverage to the growth of squash in the region
was given!
In turn, the National Squash Federation in the person of Dr. José
Soares said that the recent sworn Direction want to keep this
type of partnerships with developers and municipalities and in fact
know that this level of squash events are guaranteed a means of
promotion for the sport and of course to the regions and Portugal!
At 5pm, started the first two games! Home quite well full and a
lot of belief in the athletes to achieve the required victory and
access to the Main Draw!
Dani Pascual and Baptiste Masotti secured with a clear 3-0
this objective. In the 18,00H matches the Lebanese Ali Miski still
managed to win a game but was defeated by Joeri Hapers by
3-1. Manuel Wanner easily defeated Rui Ferreira (Russian!) by
3-0.
In the 19,00H matches has announced, Edmon Lopez easily
defeating Luke Stewart by 3-0 but Lyell Fuller had to face
Pascal Gomez and the 3-2 at the end of almost 70 minutes makes it
clear what was needed for both athletes make for a great public
enthusiasm! Finally by 20, 00H Sam Elis easily beat Luke
Bishop by 3-0. Finaly James Bamber beat Marc Ter Sluis by
3-1!
While the final matches of the day stemmed in Estarreja, began in
Santa Maria de Lamas the first phase of Training Clinic with PSA
players for junior athletes!
That's all for today from Estarreja and I do not finish without
reinforcing the invitation to all show for tomorrow in Estarreja
especially because Claudio, Rui and Pedro Damaso will need your
support!

24-Sep-2014
PSA ESTARREJA CHALLENGER 2014 - DAY 1
A day with many matches but with the top seeds ensures the passage
to the final round of qualifying!
We started the day in this competitive PSA Estarreja with the match
between two Portuguese! Tomás Silva faced and defeated
Francisco Lupi 3-0 and tomorrow faces the first seeded in Quali
Draw the Spanish Dani Pascual Martinez.
After a few more matches highlights for the game that Hugo Cabral
won against French Baptiste Masotti and Diogo Paiva
against Lebanese Ali Miski!
Rui Ferreira (aka Hernani Russo!) secured passage to the next
round against the Spanish Alejandr Sotelo Soto that did not
attend (he was afraid of the Russian) that he would had to face ...
at least that was what was said in Estarreja!
By the end of the day, a lot of fighting but in reality as mentioned
the seeded did not give any surprise! The match of the House Athlete
made the back balconies from Estarreja Squash Courts be small.
Norberto Monteiro was beaten by the 2nd seeded Dutch Marc
Sluis. The last two matches to conduct themselves had the
presence of Nelson Pereira who was defeated 3-0 by Belgian
Joeri Hapers and junior Leonardo Oliveira lost to
English Jim Bamber!
Tomorrow we begin the day with the City Hall Well Come Ceremony for
the PSA Athletes Reception at City Hall Estarreja! At 17h00 begin
the matches that promise unpredictable outcomes! We liked that Tomas
could impose his game with the Spanish and know that with
determination one can often achieve very positive results!
Then many will be the matches that will provide a lot of fight! I
foresee this reality in matches of Spanish Pascal Valois Gomez
against Lyell Fuller and Edmon Lopez Moller against Luke Stewart.
Challenge all but ceases to attend tomorrow in Estarreja and come
watch live this final round of qualifying PSA CHALLENGER ESTARREJA
2014!
