It's all Egypt in SKY Quarter-finals
An Egyptian champion of the Banque Misr Sky Open 2013 was
guaranteed as home players won all four quarter-finals at
the Sky Resort in New Cairo (mind you, three of the matches
were all-Egyptian so it's not that much of a surprise!).
First
up Marwan El Shorbagy beat Fares Dessouki, who had
upset third seed Omar Mosaad in the previous round, in
straight games,
"It hasn't been a great start to the season for me,"
admitted Marwan, "so I'm really pleased to reach the semis
and looking forward to producing my best performance
tomorrow."
Top seed Karim Darwish also came through in three as
he beat Zahed Mohamed with none of the drama of his comeback
from two down last night.
"I played a much better match today," admitted the 2009
champion, "happy to be in the semis and still fresh."
Mohamed
El Shorbagy, fresh from his Qatar Classic success,
joined his younger brother in the semis as he won a
thrilling fast-paced encounter with Mazen Hesham in four
games.
"I expected fast and furious, and I got fast and furious,"
said a relieved Shorbagy. "The cold conditions would
normally suit me but tonight they suited him more!"
Finally Omar Abdel Meguid upset fourth seed Alister
Walker in four to make it all Egypt in the semi-finals.
"I had a game plan, I stuck to it, and it worked!" said
Omar.
