19-Nov, Day THREE, Round ONE:
All seeds through but some tested ...

It was busy day at the SKY Club with sixteen first round matches, starting at 15.00 and taking place on three courts.

There was heavy home interest with home players in all but three of today's matches it's no surprise that eleven of the last sixteen are from the host country.

There were no major upsets as all eight top seeds came through, with comfortable three-nil wins for top seeds Karim Darwish, Mohamed Elshorbagy, Omar Mosaad and Alister Walker.

Seeds in the 5/8 category  were sorely tested though, particularly Marwan Elshorbagy who needed 83 minutes to beat lucky loser Jordanian Ahmad Al-Saraj, Omar Abdel Meguid whose win over Andrew Wagih took 110 minutes, and Ali Anwar Reda who was also taken the distance before seeing off Kristian Frost 12/10 in the fifth after 106 minutes.

The only qualifier to progress was Fares Dessouki, who beat Germany's Raphael Kandra in straight games.

So round two will feature 11 Egyptians, four guaranteed home quarter-final places and a possible seven, with Walker and Eddie Charlton meeting to provide the only guaranteed non-Egyptian quarter-finalist.
