Top seeds and defending champs through

Top seeded English pair Emily Whitlock and James Willstrop advanced in contrasting fashion in the first session. Whitlock accelerated away from Lisa Aitken having taken a long first game while Willstrop, after initially looking comfortable, had to work hard and was ultimately hanging on to stop Patrick Rooney taking it to five.

Defending champions Fiona Moverley and Gregoire Marche both advanced in straight games, but while Moverley's were over quickly, Marche had to work hard in eac game to fend of thhe callenge of compatrion Auguste Dussourd.

Afternoon, La Maison du Squash:
Mixed success for French as Turmel topples Milou

It was a mixed afternoon for the home hopefuls at Le Maison du Squash, as Christophe Andre and Chloe Mesic lost out, but Lucas Serme - as expected - and Baptiste Masotti with an impressive win over the sixth seed, added to home interest in the quarter-finals.

Lucy Turmel pulled off a significant upset as she beat fifth seed Milou van der Heijden in straight games, but elsewhere it was the seeded players who progressed, generally with some comfort.
