31-Aug:
Khan
forced to withdraw
from Forexx Dutch Open
Aamir Atlas Khan
has been forced to withdraw from the Forexx Dutch Open Squash
2008, which takes place September 2-7 in the Frans Otten Stadion
in Amsterdam.
The 18-year old Pakistani, who finished runner-up in last
month’s World Junior Squash Championships in Zurich, has been
unable to obtain a visa after the Dutch Embassy in Pakistan
remained closed for the past several weeks due to security
threats.
The
withdrawal of the sixth seeded Khan opens up the draw for
Dutchman Dylan Bennett, who has been elevated to the
Pakistani’s spot in the draw. Bennett will now face compatriot
Piedro Schweertman, who received a wildcard from
tournament organisers Next Events, in the first round.
The winner of the ‘Dutch battle’ awaits a possible clash with
the event’s top seed James Willstrop. However the world
number 3 from England will first have to overcome a qualifier in
his opening match. The entry list of the Professional Squash
Association (PSA) 3 star championship also includes Englishman
Nick Matthew (7), Dutch champion Laurens Jan Anjema
(15), Australia’s Cameron Pilley (18) and the always
spectacular and entertaining John White (19).
World number 1 Nicol David heads the women’s field, which
also includes Dutch ace Natalie Grinham (2), World
Champion Rachael Grinham (3), America’s Natalie
Grainger (4), English star Jenny Duncalf (5) and
former World Champion Vanessa Atkinson (9).
