19-Oct, Round One (bottom):
The
quarter-final lineup of the Channel VAS Championship at St
George's Hill was completed with four first round matches in the
bottom half of the PSA $100k draw.
Last year's finalist Tarek Momen came from a game down to
beat qualifier Cameron Pilley, and he'll meet young Peruvian
Diego Elias who was once again impressive as he beat seventh
seed Daryl Selby in convincing straight games.
Defending champion Paul Coll was just too solid and
steady for Australia's Ryan Cuskelly, the sixth-seeded Kiwi
winning in straight games that nevertheless took almost an hour
to complete.
Newly-crowned U.S. Open champion Ali Farag will be Coll's
next test after the Egyptian second seed beat St George's
wildcard Charlie Lee in three games that were thoroughly enjoyed
by the home crowd.

Qualifiers Rodriguez and Ghosal
gatecrash 'Egyptian' quarters
Tonight's matches in the top half of the draw each featured and
Egyptian who was seeded to progress to the quarter-finals of the
PSA $100k Channel VAS Championship as St George's Hill - but in
the event only two of them made it through.
Last
off court for last night's qualifying finals, Colombia's
Miguel Rodriguez was first on tonight - playing his 400th
PSA match - and he continued his impressive qualifying form as
he prevailed in five games over fifth seed Fares Dessouky.
Rodriguez will face Mohamed Elshorbagy in the
quarter-finals, after the top seed avoided last year's first
round exit with a straight-games win over Spaniard Borja Golan,
who plays for the St George's Hill PSL team.
There
was a surprise Elshorbagy exit though, as third seeded Marwan
went out in straight games to Indian qualifier Saurav Ghosal,
who in the process recorded his 200th PSA match win.
There was to be no hat-trick for the qualifiers though as
Mohamed Abouelghar, the eighth seed, beat Germany's Raphael
Kandra in four games to set up a quarter-final against Ghosal.
