4th, Day THREE
 It's
quarter-finals day in Sheffield, and rather
than lots of matches at the same time, it
was pretty much one after the other on the
main courts as Abbeydale and Hallamshire.
If you detected a strong Egyptian flavour to
the lineups you wouldn't be wrong, but there
was plenty of interest from other countries,
and a good few for the home crowds to urge
on too.
The first quartet of the day's matches saw
all eight top seeds safely through top the
semis, the only scare being when Nouran
Youssef had to recover from two games
down to fend off the challenge of Marina
Stefanoni.
 No
upsets in the second quarter, as Sam Todd
and George Parker ensured home
interest in the semi-finals with tough wins
over Egyptian opponents.
 The
third quartet of matches saw more Egyptian
winners, including a 3-0 win for Hana
Moataz over home hope Elize Lazarus, and
a thrilling 15/13 in the fifth win for B19
3/4 seed Kush Kumar in a match that
had everything. In a tense climax Kumar
saved three match balls to deny Amr Arafa,
winning on a no let to the Egyptian that
brought out contrasting emotions.
 It
wasn't until the final set of matches that
any of the top two seeds departed, and
naturally it was an Egyptian, Zena
Meckiwy, who beat the G17 second seed
Siv Subramanian in four close games. At
Abbeydale the longest match of the day saw
Omar El Atmas come from a game down
to beat Michael Craig in 64 minutes.
Overall, another good day for Egypt in
Sheffield
