Soares beat Claudio Pinto 3-1 with score 11/7 ,
8/11 , 11/8 and 11/ 9 and secured victory in PSA CLOSED
PORTO 2013.
Early morning Rui made clear by defeating Pedro
Pinto by 3-0 that he was doing everything to get the
best possible for the Final . Claudio had to fight
hard to win João Caiano by 3-2 in the other semi
final !
Then
as usual held the final of the Consolation A with Pedro
Silva win over an Amazing Alexandra Santos! (not
without having to make 4 games).
Finally we come to the final hour and it took place at 16h00
! House very well composed and Rui and Claudio made the
warming-up.
In the first game , despite the constant struggle more
patient Rui managed to close the same in their favor . After
predictably , Claudio responded and secured the second game
. In the third and fourth game , too many unforced errors at
the end of games , gave a deserved victory to Rui.
We passed immediately to the prize-giving ceremony and after
raffle VIP DOMOTEC Products and DUNLOP, we deliver
the deserved trophies and Rui speak on behalf of the
athletes , Nuno Babo on behalf of the Municipality of
Porto / Porto Lazer announced that our partnership is
to maintain and preferably to grow to the progression of
squash in Municipais.Por facilities of them all so that the
squash will continue to have the full support of the
Municipality of Oporto, to the fact that they want and to
remain so, one of the strongest National Squash Centers.
To conclude Dr. José Soares informed all briefly our
joint project for the year 2014 with the completion of 6
PSA 's Closed 's and 5 Challengers PSA 5K (timely we
will provide all the proposal document that refer to the
National Squash Federation !) .
Thus ended the year 2013 to PORTUGAL CLOSED PSA SQUASH and
myself and Dr. José Soares , wish everyone a Merry Christmas
and a year 2014 full of squash with PPCCS !

Very
intense day with some amazing matches played!
Claudio Pinto after beating Alexandra Santos and
Luis Carvalho, confronted and defeated Tomás Silva
by 3-1!
João Caiano after beating Teresa Oliveira and Jorge
Monteiro, defeated Carlos Mendes by 3-2!
Pedro
Pinto after winning Diogo Freitas and
Francisco Lupi, defeated André Lima by 3-0!
Rui Soares after defeating Pedro Silva and
Jorge Garrido, defeated Diogo Paiva by 3-0!
So tomorrow we have in the semi-finals the following clashes
at 11h00 - Claudio Pinto V João Caiano and Pedro Pinto V Rui
Soares.
In other classificatory draws we have already in the final
of the Consolation A Alexandra Santos (who defeated
Simao Félix) and in the semi- final we have Diogo
Ferreira and Pedro Silva.
So I invite everyone to attend these matches in the morning
and then by 15h30 to proceed to the Sports Complex of Monte
Aventino at 16h00 since we have the grand finale with the
customary raffle for gifts of products by VIP DOMOTEC and
DUNLOP.

PSA Closed Porto, Day ONE:
Completed
the qualification Draw and has two matches held in the Main
Draw!
First match between Jorge Condeço and Pedro Silva with a 3-0
victory of Pedro! Then Miguel Pimentel defeated Carlos
Freitas by the same score.
Already in Main Draw Rui Soares won by 3-0 Pedro Silva and
Tomás Silva defeated Miguel Pimentel by the same score.
In the last match of the day, Carlos Freitas secured a
victory in the Consolation B by 3-0 defeating Jorge Condeço.
Tomorrow as reported will start all the other athletes in
competition and we have a triple journey with particular
emphasis on the quarter-final at 1900 H!
So I invite everyone to pass through the Sports Complex of
Monte Aventino from sympathetic 10:00H to 19:00H!
Next weekend PORTUGAL PSA CLOSED SQUASH organize the last of
the three of these PSA tournaments category has proposed to
do in the last quarter of 2013!
For now we can conclude that the aims were fully achieved
because we could not only lead to new Portugal City’s PSA
events and in one case have already ensured the growth of
this event for 2014 as decisively helped the Portuguese
athletes to significantly increase their PSA ranking!
The PSA CLOSED PORTO 2013 will be held in the Squash
courts of the Sports Complex of Monte Aventino and we
have a large party of squash! For now we have more than
three dozen enrolled and analyzing them is already assured
that we can all watch guaranteed great matches over the
three days!
Next Saturday we are planning to announce to you the 2014
events project we have!
Tomorrow at 20.00, in Monte Aventino will be performed as
usual the draw to which I invite everyone to attend!

Claudio Pinto and
Catarina Nunes are the new National Champions!
The first final was the Ladies! In the morning the
strongest candidates did win the matches and then returned
by 15:30H Catarina Nunes V Alexandra Santos to play
the Final. Catherine won by 3-0 with the score 11/4; 11/4
and 11/2. In the first game Alexandra truly balanced! Then
it was a match with a unique sense to make clear that this
year Catherine had no opposition!
Thus was crowned National Champion in 2013 and at age 15
earned the title also guaranteed to be the youngest female
athlete ever to achieve such a feat!
The Men’s draw started in the morning with the semis!
Claudius and Rui had won their semi-final opponents
by 3-0 clear! Claudius won Pedro Dâmaso and Rui Soares
beated Alfredo Felicidade!
At 16:00H started the men's final! House very well composed
and Claudio and Rui Soares ready for the fight. First game
with Rui committing too many unforced errors and Claudius to
vary quite ensuring a clear 11/4!
After more than natural reaction of Rui ! Far from leaving
Claudius to think he was not there to discuss the match ,
balanced the game and won the deserved lead winning by 8/11
. Claudius did not accuse the pressure and attacked more and
more sense and so won the third game with 11 /7. In the
fourth and final game , despite Rui fight and not want to
allow end the match, the coolest and quite effective
variation , Claudius eventually won a great advantage to
10/6 ! Rui attacked more , won two more points , but after a
quick move Claudio precipitated Rui for an attack less
successful and so the 11/8 final.
Assured so Claudius Pinto Second Title of National Champion
and naturally joins its long history over this tasty
victory!
Thus ended the Portuguese National Championship ! At Awards
Ceremony and Closing , all ( Mayor , President of Federation
and Tiago Santos Tiago Marques Navarro ) praised the
commitment and dedication of all athletes with the highest
point in this fantastic final and congratulated the winners
and losers fantastic that are still very young ! The
Municipality and the Federation thanked each other that the
National performing there and so well for so many years and
it was clear that the desire is to continue!
Catarina and Claudio on behalf of the athletes thanked the
organization , federation , local, county and athletes to
the party that is made for and Squash !

NATIONAL ABSOLUTE 2013-1 DAY
First Surprise of the Day !
We
have in the semi-finals the following Athletes - Claudio
Pinto , Pedro Damaso , Rui Soares and Alfredo
Felicidade ! Catarina Nunes and Alexandra Santos
disput tomorrow the 2013 National title!
Day with interesting matches ! Naturally, the strongest
candidates not yet yielded any game , but as said the
surprise was the defeat of Tomas Silva with
Alfredo by 3-2 !
It seemed that Thomas would not be in top condition, but it
was still an intense game, with several games played with
advantages with the two athletes try not to give up in the
most intense moments ! This time won Alfredo and hence this
highlighted a return of an athlete who has been promising
for years !
So tomorrow at 11:00 H we have the semi-finals of Claudio
Pinto V Pedro Damaso and Rui Soares V Alfredo
Felicidade !
Also on tomorrow is designed to match that assigns the
female title ! For now Catherine and Alexandra fulfill their
function and so tomorrow will dispute the title match !
Tomorrow begins in the city of Porto in the Monte Aventino
Sports Complex Tournament the professional squash PSA
Tournament PORTO CUP PSA 2013!
With this Tournament return to Portugal a PSA Chalenger and
call to Monte Aventino and the city of Porto in particular
athletes from around the world!
This tournament is divided into two phases.
In the first phase which begins tomorrow at 17h00, we
have the qualifications with two rounds. 16 athletes
will play this Draw in which naturally include the first two
seeds (Patrick Miescher from Swiss and the Belgian
Jan Van Den Herrewegen) For delight of the Squash
Portuguese fans we have the Portuguese athletes Diogo
Mendes, Tomás Silva, João Caiano, Pedro Pinto and Rui Soares!
We can thus say that the return in PSA scenario is strong
for the Portuguese because in reality we have in this
tournament five of the strongest Portuguese players!
Finally the Main Draw will start on Thursday 21st
November with 16 athletes who receive from Qualification 4
athletes. In this Draw pontificate naturally the first 4
seeded (No. 1 Ben Coleman - ENG ; No. 2 Johan
Bouquet FRA ; No. 3 Alexandro Garbi - ESP ; No. 4
Yann Perrin - FRA ) and the Tournament Wild Card the

17 November 2013, Day THREE: Porto Cup ends
Hello to All
The English Ashley Davies was the big winner of the
2013 edition of PORTO CUP, beating in the final Claudio
Pinto 3-1!
Thus ended another sensational day of matches in the squash
courts of Sport Complex of Monte Aventino!
In the semi -finals, English Ashley Davies
defeated Rui Soares by 3-1 , in a match simply
breathless ! First two games 10/12 and then a Rui attacking
everything and let the English without reaction - 11/4 . In
the fourth game, although the balance up to 4 /4, Rui left
momentarily escape Ashley . However, a fantastic recovery,
took the game a 9/10 was not a rousing and miscalculated
attack could have gotten THE ADVANTAGES ! Ashley assured
with the 9/11 end access to the final !
In the other semi -final, Claudio Pinto defeated
Marc Ter Sluis by 3-2 with the following score 11/3 ,
7/11 , 9/11 , 11/6 and 11/5. Match in which the patient
entered decided!
Marc did not want to miss the opportunity to reach the final
and the second and third game attacked everything and
managed to put the pressure on Claudio. Claudio joined the
fourth game aware that he could not do risky game and
patiently managed to take the game to the fifth and deciding
the match! He attacked everything that can and Marc already
tired nothing else can do, that was only see Cláudio in the
way to the final! The crowd was delirious with a Portuguese
in the final!
In the final has mention Ashley Davies defeated Claudio by
3-1 with the score 11/4 , 13/15 , 6/11 and 5/11!
With a Monte Aventino literally overflowing and atmosphere
just amazing ! Claudio came and decided it was perfect at
the time of attack ! Thus ensured a clear 11/4 ! In the
second game , it was expected and it was so much fighting !
Several moves breathtaking and the two finalists to give
everything to not let winning this game . Despite several
game balls on both sides , Ashley was happier and got close
to 13 /15. In the third and fourth game, the English got
better emotion control and Claudio slightly fatigued by the
semis in the morning, could not always react decisively to
counter the English ! Won well this time Ashley and
deservedly ended thereby an epic journey to PORTO CUP !
In the remaining consolation draws the winners had the
following athletes : Luís Gomes won the Plate C ,
Afonso Silva won the Plate B and finally won the Hugo
Cabral won Plate A!
Thus ended the 14th Edition of PORTO CUP and of course we
like very much the fact that the same terms calculated over
six athletes for the PSA that begins Tuesday already on the
Monte Aventino !
So it's up to me to highlight the following facts :
A - Rui Soares and Catherine Nunes thus ensure first
place in the National Ranking 2013 Senior of National Squash
Federation !
B - We managed during this end-of- week of competition , the
remaining locals have elected to qualification PORTO CUP PSA
2013! They are:
Ashley Davies ; Marc Tue Sluis , Julian Tomlison ; Tomás
Silva , Diogo Mendes and João Caiano that complete the
Group with Rui Soares and Pedro Pinto as athletes
PSA's had been invited by the organization (Locals) !
C - closed the National Circuit in 2013 ( if I may
modesty ! ) With a golden key !
D - We offer a great " appetizer " for the competition and
that there is guaranteed to show everyone that Squash is
alive , is fundamentally all athletes and all who love this
sport !

16 November 2013, Day TWO: Porto Cup continues
Hello to All
Claudio Pinto and Rui Soares are in the semi -finals
of PORTO CUP 2013! They going to face Marc Sluis and Asheley
Davies respectively, while Catarina Nunes secured
first place in the National Ranking in 2013 by winning the
female Draw of PORTO CUP !
Long day of squash with a marathon of matches very
interesting! Since morning the two competitive Draw’s held
with athletes to give everything to win and conquer the best
possible position!
In the men's draw were going clashes that began to emerge in
the best way the top eight seeded! These just do not come to
this reality that João Caiano was defeated by
Diogo Mendes and Pedro Damaso who was defeated by
Tomás Silva!
The
Match of the day was the Clash between the Dutch
Marc Sluis and Diogo Mendes.
Marc start to win the first two games. Diogo did not let the
finish the match immediately and perform far above the usual
imposed with a 12 / 10 and with a 13/11. In the fifth game
spite of the continuous equilibrium in the end of more than
90 minutes Diogo , finally gave the last moment and was
defeated by 11/9 ! Yet one very good match to put Monte
Aventino to the Crimson because everyone believed and made
believe that it was possible to Diogo keep dreaming !
As for Claudio and Rui Soares bough easy went to the
semifinal! Cláudo defeat all opponents by 3-0 and will face
Marc! Rui beat Pedro Pinto that had defeated by 3-0 Carlos
Mendes and faces Asheley Davies who defeated his compatriot
Julian !
So tomorrow at 11h30 we have the two semi-final clashes with
that very sincerely promise and provide moments of fantastic
squash!
In
the Ladies' Draw Catarina returned to secure a
victory. Defeated in the final Alexandra Santos and
Podium was complete by Sara Neves who defeated
Mariana Seca !
Thus ended another day of competition at Monte Aventino and
all went to the Tournament dinner! Even The space was a
fantastic place I think everyone enjoyed the atmosphere of
it!

15 November 2013, Day ONE: Porto Cup under way
Moments ago finished the Qualifying for the Main Draw of the
PORTO CUP 2013!
As announced, there were many matches that were decided over
three games, and many of these with various features to
advantages! It was demonstrated how the balance endured and
it could not happen, there were some amazing final results!
The
match of the day will naturally to the clash between Junior
Afonso Silva and veteran Marcelo Pinheiro !
Marcelo won 3-1 and so managed to return to the main Draw of
a National tournament !
Tomorrow in the first round we will have very interesting
matches. These if I may highlight some tale in which
outcomes with little predictable! Certainly it will be worth
watching the clash between Tomás and José Aguiar and Diogo
Paiva and Alfredo Felicidade!
The
day will be extended and the remaining rounds begin
increasingly to provide possible match’s extremely
interesting !
Surely everyone will want throughout the day see the
performance of the best national athletes and of course the
British Ashley and Julian and the Dutch Marc !
Likewise as we also announced the onset of female ! In this
highlight the clash Catarina Nunes and Marta Lopes ! We know
that Catherine is in a good form, but a determined and
applied Marta , can afford to discuss all the game !

Hello to all
Tomorrow begins in the city of Porto in the Sports Complex
of the Monte Aventino the 2013 edition of the PORTO CUP!
We are in the 14th edition and of course we have some
facts for me to highlight!
As for the other years , the Port Cup closes the Senior
squash season and so will stay here defined the positions of
the respective male and female rankings !
We have the top athletes of these two levels and in
addition, we also within an attractive male who called some
international athletes!
Besides the respective Prize- Money, PORTO CUP offer to the
top six a place in the qualifier draw of the PSA Tournament
that we held from 19 to 24 November also in Monte
Aventino!
The men's tournament begins tomorrow at 18h00 and we have
already very interesting matches! Morning of Saturday will
see the start of Main Draws!
So to all athletes who wish much luck and that prevails the
Fair- Play ! Within the possibilities of all, we ask for
help the organization with the proper performance in
necessary referees!
No end while inviting everyone to literally invade Monte
Aventino in the next three days and showing your affection
towards establishing a presence in the Squash conference
dinner Saturday at 21:30 am in the restaurant of the Hotel
AC Porto !

Claudio Pinto won the PSA CLOSED ANADIA 2013!
Defeated in the final Rui Soares by 3-1 with the 6/11 , 11/8
, 11 /7 and 11/8 !
Intense day in ANADIA !
Semi-finals in the morning with a devastating
Claudius defeated Carlos Mendes by 3-0 with
partial 11/2 , 11 / 0 and 12/10 and Rui Soares have
to defeat the restless Tomás Silva in 4 games (
partial 11/8 , 11/7 , 10 /12 and 11/3 ! ) matches were
immediately made it clear to all present that the final
would certainly be hard and provide good moments of squash !
So, something that ... not to be missed! !
In the final, after getting the audience in an
expressive number we had also the Vice - Mayor of the
Anadia Eng. Jorge Sampaio , Claudio Rui began another
clash between the two !
Rui in the first game was more offensive and safely secured
first game with 6/11 in his favor and made clear that he was
there to discuss and win the match !
Provident break and Claudio changed strategy and started to
turn the tide decided to start!
In the second game, Claudio was gradually shortening and
extending the rallies time and created Rui precipitation
Claudio tighten everything and all the " corners " in order
to ensure 11/8 in your favor !
In the third game, though Rui to come back well , Claudio
went faster and explosive in the attacks and defenses and
Rui began to fall repeatedly unforced error !
Already with the score 2-1 in favor of Claudio , Rui fought
not to flee Claudio for another victory in PSA CLOSED but
Claudio again precipitated Rui errors and managed with good
variations and quickly reach the 11/8 after almost an hour
and a half and thus the victory in another PSA !
In
the remaining Draws Miguel Peixoto secured victory in
PLATE B by defeating Rogerio Rocha by 3-0 with partial 11/9
, 11 /7 and 14/12 ! The winner of the PLATE A was Luis
Carvalho that defeated by 3-1 and partials of 8/11 , 11/2 ,
11 /5, 11/5 Diogo Ferreira !
Thus ended another PSA CLOSED Organized by PORTUGAL PSA
CLOSED SQUASH ! At the prize-giving ceremony we thanked the
sponsor VIP Domotec and Dunlop and of course the fantastic
cooperation and support of Anadia for this tournament !
Claudio on behalf of all the athletes thanked the commitment
and availability of all athletes and that he was very nice
to return to Anadia to another victory ! Praised the
performance of Rui Soares in the final and of course he
could not remain indifferent to the presence and
collaboration with the organization of Anadia in the persons
of Paulo Mamede and Eng. Jorge Sampaio !
To finish the Vice - President of the ANADIA City Wall made
it clear that the focus on Squash by Anadia will increase
and that is your desire and also the municipality provide
for short study significant growth in the region, for the
Squash sport trying hard to bring the Squash other terms in
the region that has its working point for the highest
performance!

It is of course our desire and by PSA PORTUGAL CLOSED SQUASH
, keep the maximum to take the events of this magnitude
places less usual in the country and thus provide more
robust and decisive bet Squash arise in that both like and
support !

Hello to
all,
Complete is the first full day of PSA CLOSED ANADIA 2013,
and we have the top four seeded as semifinalists !
Claudio Pinto , Carlos Mendes , Tomás Silva and Rui
Soares faced up tomorrow at 11h00 respectively !
The Day as mentioned yesterday began shortly with some
matches in the Qualification Draw quite interesting and
exciting!
The spotlights will naturally both Anadienseswho
defeated their opponents 3-2! Paulo Mamede defeated
Miguel Peixoto from Porto and Simão Neves
defeated Rogerio Rocha !
In the main draw the first rounds the first series heads
were always beating athletes who faced! Without exception
the final result was always 3-0!
The quarter- final match more balanced and the game
actually generated the concentration of public and everyone
was provided a great show!
Claudio
Pinto faced and defeated Diogo Mendes by 3-1 with
the partial 11/2 , 11/8 , 7 /11 and 11/8 . Diogo started the
match less concentrated and Claudio quickly put the lead
2-0! In the third game Diogo did all to don’t let the match
finished! In the fourth game despite some balance to 6-6 ,
Claudio played with some more offensive gained the advantage
and close the match in their favor !
All the remaining matches of the quarter- end were decided
in favor of Rui Soares , Carlos Mendes and Tomás Silva by a
clear 3-0!
So tomorrow at 11:00 we have the semi-finals between
Claudio Pinto V Carlos Mendes and Rui Soares V Tomás
Silva!
In
the remaining Draws we have classifying as finalists Plate B

Tomorrow begins the Sports Complex Anadia the PSA
CLOSED ANADIA 2013!
This is the second event of the three- programmed by
Portugal PSA Squash Closed for the end of the year 2013 and
once again took a new region of Portugal a Professional
Squash Tournament !
The tournament begins with Qualification Draw tomorrow at
10h00 and the two squash courts of Anadia we have the
beginning of the main draw by 11h30 !
The first two seeds are Claudio Pinto and Rui Soares
current # 244 and # 254 respectively!T hey are well
accompanied by veteran Carlos Mendes and the Junior
Tomás Silva! But now truly return to competition
(because it was unable to compete in the PSA CLOSED Jardins
da RIA 2013 for injury!) Is also Diego Mendes!
We know that tomorrow will run a small marathon of matches
and these will certainly have some unpredictable results!
Naturally highlight to the end of the day the quarter- final
will certainly provide at least some clashes between strong
candidates for final victory !
Do not want to finish without a strong flow of visitors to

Hello to All
Guilherme Prata , Iara Gonçalves , Catarina Nunes and
Claudio Pinto are the National Champions 2013 Sub15 and
U19 respectively !
The day was intense in the Sports Complex of Anadia as
advertised and the junior nationals fought bravely to reach
the final of the Draws !
Under
15 Guilherme Prata defeated in the Final Simão Neves
3-1. Gonçalo Santos secured by defeating Jose Belo
3-0 the last place on the podium!
The girls champion was Iara Gonçalves that defeated
by 3-0 Inês das Neves.
In U19 Catarina
Nunes defeated Alexandra Santos by 3-1! It was a
well-played match and Alexandra managed to force Catherine
to the fourth game!
Finally in U19 boysCláudio Pinto defeated by
3-0 Tomás Silva in the final! It was a match with one
way because Claudi never allowed to Tomás a reaction. In
Third-place Afonso Silva defeated Jorge Monteiro
by 3-1 !
It was indeed an interesting tournament and as mentioned in
the Prize Given ceremony the Champion Claudio it was a very
good way in Portugal to celebrate the WORLD SQUASH DAY, we
saw very interesting matches and also saw a significant
number of juniors to compete in this Nationals! It's always
good to pass without any incident, and in fact the flow of
visitors was very expressive!

CLOSED Jardins da Ria 2013!
Claudio faced Rui Soares and won in the final 3-1
securing the first victory for a Portuguese in a PSA Senior
Tournament!
The day began with the semi-finals !
Firstly clashed Rui Soares and Carlos Mendes where
Rui easily won 3-0 ! Carlos even took the 2nd game of the
advantages but the 11/2 , 12 /10 and 11/3 are clear to show
the superiority of Rui in this match !
After clashed Cláudio Pinto and Tomás Silva ! Claudio
also did not give much chance to Tomás ! The partial 11/7 ,
11 /8 and 11/6 in this case also demonstrate that Cláudio
wan easily!
In
the final Claudio started strong in the first game but Rui was
very good and nullifying the advantage of Claudius 10/6
achieved safely and without errors close to 12/10 !
In the second game, it was exactly the opposite! Rui got
better and suddenly Claudio start to find advantage and
closed the game 11/8 !
In the third game Claudio won 11/5 .
Finally in the fourth game , Claudio took advantage and get
up to 4/1 , never ceased to flee the result and despite a
Rui determined fight , secured victory in this match and
this PSA Closed with the final 11/8!
In conclusion I can say that the PSA Closed Jardins da Ria
2013 was a success because it actually managed to have a
very significant number of participants, and ensured that
the quality was very good!
Also proved that in the national squash we have space to
make and participate in events PSA Closed! The purpose and
objectives were all achieved and for young Portuguese
players, it was a way to provide a contribution to have
points for the PSA world ranking!
Naturally, on behalf of myself and Dr. José Soares,
we thank the sponsors of this PSA, the Jardins da Ria
Hotel, Dunlop, the designer Nuno Alves,
and entities such as SquashSite, PortugalSquash, the
Daily Journal of Aveiro and the National Squash
Federation who were instrumental in the success of this
event !

participants, because without them, nothing could have
happened naturally and of course, the finalists of the

Hello to All
Claudio Pinto, Tomás Silva, Carlos Mendes and Rui
Soares are in the semi-finals of the PSA CLOSED Jardins
da Ria 2013!
Since early morning, the two squash courts of the sports
complex of Jardins da Ria hosted this PSA! The
athletes gave their best throughout this triple journey but
of course the highlight is on the athletes mentioned up!
They throughout the day won all the rounds and interestingly
in the quarter-finals beat their opponents by clear 3-0!
Claudio Pinto defeated teammate Nuno Alves.
Tomás Silva defeated Andre Lima in a match in
which both interesting and did everything not to lose!
Carlos Mendes defeated Diogo Paiva with some
tightening in the first game! Rui Soares defeated the
Junior Jorge Monteiro that much we liked his daily
performance!
So tomorrow we have at 10h30 Claudio to face Tomás and Rui
to face Carlos mendes, with the final at 15h30.
Tomorow consolation A semi-final clashes between Rogerio
Rocha V Marco Prata and Norberto Monteiro V Miguel Pimenta!
The winner of the Consolation B was Ricardo Sousa!

Hello to All,
Today begins the PSA CLOSED Jardins da Ria 2013!
This is one of three Tournaments of the kind (PSA SATELLITE
CLOSED) that are scheduled to be carried out until the end
of the year 2013 in Portugal!
These Tournaments are registered in the Professional Squash
Association - PSA and one of the objectives is to help the
Portuguese athletes to score for the PSA ranking!
We have 34 enters and so the event starts today with two
qualifying matches!
At 19h00

The winners of these matches
access the main draw which begins early Saturday morning
where confirmed athletes as Claudio Pinto, Rui Soares, André
Lima and Carlos Mendes!
We can say that tomorrow will surely arise clashes
unpredictable outcome until the last minute and is assured
that once again we will have matches where the clash of
generations provide unmissable shows!

30-Jun, PJO Finals: Pinto delights home fans in Porto
Home favourite Claudio Pinto delighted his fans in
Porto as he defeated Colombian Dairo Sandoval in the B19
final 11/7, 11/6, 11/6.
It was a wonderful way to end the 2013 edition of the PJO,
on a day which was devoted to the finals and of course
started since early morning!
In the U13 winners were the Spanish Julia and Aron Gomez
with Guilherme Prata to ensure the final podium spot
defeating by 3-0 Simão Neves!
In the U15 the winner was the North American Reginald
Anderson who defeated the Spanish Javier Sanches by 3-0.
In the U17 Draws winners were the North American Spencer
Anton who defeated Italian Ciopolleta by 3-2 and in last
place on the podium the Pakistani Umair Zaman who defeated
by 3-0 Afonso Silva! In girls the winner was Ines Gomez who
beat Laura San Pelayo by 3-0 but with Catarina Nunes to
secure the third place on the podium defeating by 3-1 the
American Molly Prockop.
Finally in the U19 Draws the Spanish Cristina Jimenez
beat American Devin Mullaney by a clear 3-0 and thus also
their first points on the professional circuit Female fruit
of reality PJO score as a Rising Star category of the WSA.
Marta Lozao won by 3-2 the American Ellen Coombe and secured
the third position!
As for the boy’s final U19 Claudio Pinto defeat the
Colombian Dairo Sandoval by 3-0 and assured, another win in
this European circuit and PJO! This year we had the
particularity of PJO also be a National PSA Close and thus
also secured another victory for this important World
Professional Ranking! In the final podium place was the
English Alex Noakes who beat by injury the North American
Devin Mclaughlin!
It was also another fantastic day for the PJO with a lot of
matches and balanced outcomes unpredictable until the last
seconds of many games!
At the prize-giving ceremony which counted with the presence
of Dr. Nuno Babo Porto Lazer also on behalf of the
Municipality of Porto and Dr. Bruno Dias president of
National Squash Federation, we can see that actually the PJO
went well and that all participants and organization were
very pleased with the event that we all desire and all we do
to Portuguese Junior Open grow even more!
Couldn't end without referring to the final speech of
Claudio Pinto on behalf of all the athletes thanked the
Municipality of Porto and Porto Lazer, for hosting this
event on Monte Aventino courts and of course the National
Squash Federation for having provided together with the
remainder of this organization a Mega PJO!
Also thank personally the performance of his opponent in the
final and finally thank his sponsors such as HEAD, the

Portuguese Junior Open, Day
Two: Claudio Pinto is in the final of the Portuguese
Junior Open 2013! So
far undefeated, the home favourite will play on Sunday at
17:00 with the Colombian Dairo Sandoval!
It was a day full of matches to cut the breath to anyone
because in Oporto have been with 33 degrees Celsius! Lots of
energy on the part of athletes and the heat came naturally
exacerbate the show and also the temperature of the Courts
of Monte Aventino!
Many Portuguese were being defeated in the quarter-final and
semi-final a few! Highlights for Catarina Nunes that
although be defeated by 3-1 by Spanish Laura gave quite a
fight! As for Afonso Silva managed to win the first match to
the Hungarian Szucs Ákos by 3-2 and only lost in the
semi-finals with the American Spencer Anton by 3-0. Simão
Neves and Guilherme Prata were defeated by 3-0 by the
English Marcus Tranter and Spanish Aron Gomez respectively.
As
for Claudio assured a victory in the morning with a clear
3-0 in the match with the North American Arhum Salem and in
the semi-finals faced the English Alex Noakes and also won
by 3-0 with the partial 11/7, 11/6 and 11/6! As stated by
17:00 tomorrow will face Colombian Dairo Sandoval!
Tomorrow we have another day full of good matches and thus
request your presence as the same will be sure to continue
to be important and helping our athletes.

Qatari Aspire academy is in Porto and PJO interviewed
the coach, Australian Stewart Boswell.
PJO - First opinion of PJO and expectations of Aspire
players?
SB - It is our first time in Porto and in the PJO and the
Tournament is perfect for the level of Aspire Players! The
Players are in the PJO to have good matches and learn!
PJO - What are your athletes' hopes for this tournament?
SB - They are here to learn and play with good athletes to
gain the maximum experience!
PJO - How do you think your players feel about training
with you? What do you think about and how do you feel
as coach?
SB - Some of our players just train with us for a year.
Until that moment Squash is a complete new experience for
them! Maybe to a European Player it made difference but to
Qatari player everything of squash is new!
About me, it's a good experience and we are doing a good job
in the Aspire Academy! As a coach I'm feeling well!
PJO - In what way you see Squash Olympic good for this
players and for the Qataris?
SB - Squash Olympic will be amazing because more funds will
come to Squash (in Aspire the problem is not funds!) ! In
Qatar Squash still be small but I think it will grow more if
Squash becomes Olympic.

PJO - David Palmer is certainly an inspiration and
courage for TOG athletes . What do you think about and how
do you feel has coach?
DP - They like our presence and our way of working! I train
some athletes and whenever I do this tour with TOG. As much
as we leave the pro career we want that the players be
professional and we want they be stronger and more experient.
PJO - In what way you see Squash Olympic good for this
players and for the Americans?
DP - Squash Olympic will be amazing because more funds will
come to Squash and the players will have one more huge
competition. In America Squash is growing and will grow more
if Squash becomes Olympic.

Moments ago finished the first day of the PJO 2013!
A real marathon of squash matches from which we highlight in
the quarter-finals and semi-finals tomorrow morning the
presence of Claudio Pinto, Tomás Silva, Pedro Pinto
in U19, Afonso Silva, Jorge Pimentel and Catarina Nunes
in Draws U17, José Belo in U15 and Simon Neves and
Guilherme Prata in U13!
It was indeed a full day of exciting matches and completely
unpredictable results until the final moments!
A
Big surprise to all players and public was the fact that as
coaches and mentors we had in Monte Aventino mythical
figures such as the Squash World Champion and several times
British Open Champion Australian David Palmer and
also the no less famous Australian Stuart Boswell and
just time appeared in the elite World Squash!
Finally the fact that all the Portuguese have been exemplary
in fair play and also very supportive with the organization!
So everything went well and we managed to "close" in hours
and put almost all matches taking place a few minutes before
the scheduled very significant!
Tomorrow we have another day full of good matches and thus
request your presence for the same key will be sure to help
our athletes.

the 2013 edition of the Portuguese Junior Open! For the
first time we got a vast continental representation and the
biggest international representation is United States with
almost 40 athletes!
This is the PJO fourth edition, and the result of a high
number of participants we can announce that it is the
biggest ever in terms of participants, in terms of
international participants and in terms of competitive
draws! Also the 2013 edition has the particularity of the
U19 Draws be also PSA and WSA Tournaments and the players
can ask for points to the professional rankings. The Girls
U19 tournament is a Rising Star category and the Boys U19
Draw is a PSA National Close!
From 10:00, we have guaranteed a mega marathon of 280
matches with more than a hundred athletes!
The most competitive Draws are Boys U17 and U19 respectively
with more than 20 athletes in each! In all competitive Draws
Portugal has aspirations to places in the final podiums but
highlight here the Draws U13 boys in which Simão Neves is
the seeded No. 1 at the Draw U17 Girls in which Catarina
Nunes also emerges as seeded No. 1 and finally in Draw U19
Boys in whom we have Claudio Pinto and Pedro Pinto as seeded
No. 1 and 4 respectively!
Do not finish without mentioning the PJO 2013 deserves a
massive presence of audience and this is essential that each
of you bring a group of friends to see this fantastic

APRIL 2013
Iberian Cup Simão Neves, Maria Pereira, Jorge Monteiro, Inez Gomez,
Tomas Silva and Pascal Gomez are the new Champions of the
Iberian Cup!
This was the division of titles of the 2013 edition!
In the U13 finals, Simon beat Gilherme Prata and Maria
Pereira defeated her compatriot Paula Franco, in U15 Jorge
Monteiro beat the Spanish Cio Garcia, in U17 Inez defeat
Catarina Nunes and Tomás Silva defeated Afonso Silva.
Finally in U19 Pascal Gomez beat Cláudio because he had to
give up when he was 1-1 in games!
Thus we had three championship titles for each side
(Portugal and Spain)!
With the exception of the Female U13 Draw the podiums were
"populated" by Portuguese which is to highlight and praise!
This edition of 2013 had a huge number of players and it was
the greatest edition ever and gave everyone present many
interesting matches !
This has sparked the desire to go in to another edition by
the end of the year 2013, now in Vigo!
Last but not least, I give thanks to all the athletes and
family that pass this day in Solinca Dragon.
This party was magnified by the support of all, and Portugal
and Spain with this event potentiate the growth mode and
thus strengthen the bonds of friendship that unite us for
many years!
Today
ended the first edition of Portugal Galicia in Squash!
Portugal and Galicia divided among themselves the titles of
Champion of this first Tournament.
As highlight of the day the final matches between the Senior
Men Absolute (a final between the two A Teams) Galicia won
3-1 (Carlos Cornes beat Claudio Pinto by 3-0; Pascal Gomez
beat Rui Soares by 3-1; Jesus Souto beat Pedro Damaso by 3-0
and Diogo Mendes beat Adan Lopez by 3 - 0!). In the Senior
Women's Galicia won easily by 3-0! All Portuguese’s were
defeated by 3-0, but in some moments at least they tried to
discuss the game!
Veterans the big winner was Portugal A! In the final
Portugal defeated Galicia by 4-1.
The final results were as follows:
Senior Men - 1st Galicia A, 2nd Portugal A, 3rd Portugal B,
4th Galicia B
Senior Women - 1st Galicia; 2 Portugal

In conclusion I highlight fundamentally two aspects:
1 was certainly a fantastic conviviality among all athletes
with exemplary fair play. All athletes enjoyed themselves
and can see great matches attended by a number of public
very interesting!
2 The Teams Masculine and Feminine have sufficient
information to know how they can orient the near future in
terms of training! It's moments like today that help us
clearly to trace paths and create defenses for future
moments of competition!

officials who have committed to continuing this event and as
mentioned grow up the same for junior ranks and on time! A

first edition of the Squash Tournament between the
Galicia and Portugal Selections.
The purpose of this event is help to prepare the athletes of
national teams and strengthen the excellent relationship
that exists between the National Squash Federation and
the Galician Squash Federation !

03-Mar, Dragon Cup Finals: Cornes and Nunes are Dragon Cup Champions
Carlos Cornes and
Catherine Nunes are the Champions of the Dragon Cup 2013
- Carlos defeated Cláudio Pinto by 3-1 and Catarina beat
Teresa Quelhas by 3-0!
The Dragon Cup Close PSA 2013 came to the end with two very
interesting finals:
The men's final was between the Professional Spaniard and #
133 PSA ranked Carlos Cornes, and the National Portuguese
Champion Claudio Pinto.
This
was the second recent match between these two -the
first Carlos won 3-0 in the Castelo Branco Close PSA Sems.
Cornes started strong but Claudio was gradually imposing his
pace. The scoreline of 11/4, 11/7, 13/11 and 11/8
shows Claudio's patience and also his improving game by
game. Fatigue did appear but I think everyone saw rallies
and great moments of breathtaking squash - the match took 57
minutes with impressive changes of speed with constant power
variations.
Cornes was a worthy winner and thus achieves another victory
in this internationally also a Close PSA. The final podium
spot was taken by Rui Soares who beat Hugo Varela by 3-2
with the last game finishing 14/12!
In conclusion, I use exactly the words of Carlos Cornes:
"Claudio was a good Portuguese representative in the
final! He almost defeated all Spaniards who played this
tournament (first Pascal and then Hugo)! This makes Claudio
a true squash athlete and boy that we all see grow is
increasingly to a man and a great Squash athlete! "
It is also to highlight the reality of this PSA Close
finish with two Portuguese athletes on the podium (Claudio
and Rui) and Claudio (now # 286 PSA) who sensationally beat
the # 188 PSA Hugo Varela!
As for the women's final, this time Catarina Nunes gave no
chance to Teresa Quelhas. The 3-0 score is enlightening and
shows well the pressure of this junior. Catherine managed to
force errors continuously from Teresa and so won this final
convincingly.
We must emphasize the phenomenal growth of Catarina as an
athlete - tt is necessary to remember the times that are
needed as Catarina has only 14 years old.
I can't finish without thanking the immense amount of public
who attended during these three days in Solinca Dragon and
today in the finals was in fact fundamentally orderly but
can watch good and excellent performances of Squash
athletes!
I'm sure all together (Organization, Public and Athletes)
take another small step towards the Global Campaign for the
Squash Olympic be a reality! SQUASH BACK THE BID!!

Semi-Finals: Sensational! Claudio Pinto and Carlos Cornes
play this afternoon the final !
Claudio
Pinto faced and defeated in the semi-final the Spanish Hugo
Varela 3-1 with partial 11/7, 11/3, 8/11 and 11/8!
Match very well controlled, with a Cláudio not letting
himself intimidated by the Spaniard.
In the other semi-final, Carlos Cornes faced Rui Soares and
won 3-0. Soares was suffering from a small foot injury and failed to
represent a threat to Cornes!
So by 15:00 we have the women's final between Teresa Quelhas
and Catarina Nunes and then by 16:15h the men final of this
Close PSA between Claudio Pinto and Carlos Cornes!
Come out and bring friends to replenish the Balcony of
Solinca Dragon!

Pinto, Rui Soares, Carlos Cornes and Hugo Varela, are
again in the semi-finals of the PSA Close Dragon Cup 2013!
Teresa Quelhas and Catarina Nunes will dispute tomorrow the
ladies Draw Final!
Full day of electrifying matches and moments of squash very
interesting!
In the first round of the men’s
main draw emphasis on the match between the Angolan
Alfredo Felicidade and André Lima that Lima won by3-0!
In the second round the highlights are for the matches
between Rui Soares V Diego Mendes where Soares won
3-1 and Claudio Pinto V Tomás Silva in which Pinto
also won 3-1.
In the final round of the day, the quarter-final, the
athletes have been fighting up in the following order:
Carlos
Cornes won 3-0 and faced his compatriot Aitor Zunzunegui,
Rui Soares faced and won João Caiano by 3-1, Hugo
Varela faced and defeated Pedro Damaso by 3-0 and the last
big Match of the day, Claudio Pinto faced and
defeated the Spaniard Pascal Gomez by 3-2!
In this Match Claudio was down 2-0 and rebounded
sensationally for the 3-2 final with the partial 8/11, 3/11,
11/5, 11/6 and 11/4! This match had the impressive time of
95 minutes! Claudio and Pascal had recently been facing in
the final of the U19 National Spanish, but this time Claudio
believed more and managed to get the ability to win Pascal.
So we have tomorrow at 11:30 h the semi-finals between
Carlos Cornes V Rui Soares and Cláudio Pinto V Hugo Varela!
As to the Ladies Draw despite the struggle and determination
of other athletes, we again have a confrontation between the
National Champion and Vice-Champion! Teresa and Catarina
easily dispatched their opponents and will play the final at
15:15H.
No finishing without thanking the high presence of public
and strengthening my request for tomorrow even more people
show up in Solinca Dragon!
The male athletes who are in the semi-finals they need your
support and do not forget to show up late to watch the grand
finals!
Today
began the Dragon Cup 2013 and was completed two rounds of
qualifying of this Close PSA!
Despite some matches were a little unbalanced, not ceased to
exist some results with several games played in the
tie-break! These highlight the match between the junior
Jorge Pimentel and Pedro Oliveira, in which Oliveira won
3-1 with partial 3/11, 9/11, 12/10 and 9/11 and the match
Luís Carvalho V Nuno Alves, in which Alves won 3-1 with
partial 8/11, 14/12, 11/7 and 11/8. Any of this matches had
times over 60 minutes!
Now the main Draw is complete. In the morning matches we
going to have results very interesting and for sure
unpredictable! These 1st round of matches highlight the
clashes between the French Yoann Leydet V Nelson Pereira,
Tomás Silva V Jorge Faria and the Angolan Alfredo Felicidade
V André Lima!
The Ladies Draw starts in the morning and will provide for
sure exciting matches!

Dragon Cup 2013, 01-03 March
Start tomorrow in Solinca Dragon in the city of
Porto, the second tournament of the National Senior. The
Dragon Cup 2013 that has a male and female Draw and is
simultaneously a Close PSA!
Thus we have in Porto one of the strongest male draws in
recent times because is reinforced with Spaniards
international athletes and naturally has the national elite
squash!
Next Friday returns from Spain Carlos Cornes and
Hugo Varela (Castelo Branco Close PSA Finalists), but
also come Aitor Zunzunegui and Pascal Gomez
(these athletes were assigned positions 7 and 8 of the main
draw!). Given the massive presence of the Portuguese Top 20
we can conclude that this event promises much and certainly
since the early rounds will give unpredictable results!
As to the female draw also highlight the presence of the
National Top reinforced with the entry of Marta Lopes!
The National Champion Teresa Quelhas and
Vice-Champion Catherine Nunes will certainly have
determined fight from the initial rounds and towards the end
of the tournament the junior Sara Neves and
Alexandra Santos try to fight for a place in the final!
To all the athletes we wish good luck that prevails
Fair-Play and all do the best to help the organization in
essential functions of referee!

Carlos
Cornes was the winner of the Castelo Branco
International Squash 2013 winning Hugo Varela in the final
by 3-0. Claudio Pinto beat Rui Soares by 3-0 secured the
last podium place in this PSA Close.
Carlos won in just over an hour his compatriot Hugo. Always
more offensive don’t allow his rival had the hope of
recovery! In the third game, Hugo bet on a strong start from
un effective offensive game, but patiently Carlos managed to
counter it and win also this game and this great final!
Assured the victory well in this tournament and finish a
journey brilliant because not yield any game to their
opponents.
For the third place Claudio was more effective than Rui and
avoided the committing of unforced errors. Rui in the first
two games really showed some momentary lack of patience. In
the third game balance was constant but Claudio do not
wanted lose the chance to complete well over another PSA on
the podium.
In conclusion I say to you that the tournament in the
opinion of all was very good! For the National Squash was
further proof of knowing organize evidence of events with
greater size and better quality!

Hello everyone
Carlos Cornes, Claudio Pinto, Rui Soares and Hugo Varela
are in the semi finals of Close PSA Castelo Branco
International Squash 2013. These first two days have been
very fertile in strong matches with some surprising results!
All quarter-final matches ended with a 3-0 clear. Carlos
Cornes beat Pedro Damaso, Claudio Pinto beat Carlos Mendes,
Rui Soares beat John Caiano and Hugo Varela also won against
André Lima!
So in the semi finals tomorrow by 11:40 am Carlos Cornes
faces Claudio Pinto and Rui Soares Hugo Varela. Any of the
matches will not be easy for the Portugueses, but quite
honestly I believe that Claudio and Rui, can do a good
performance and even cause a surprise! Both should know and
will play their matches with courage and determination!
Not forgetting requesting the presence of the public from
Castelo Branco because athletes deserve your presence and
suport and the tournament guaranteed be more interesting!

Hello everyone
Today starts in Castelo Branco,
Portugal the 2013 Senior Squash Season!
The National Senior Circuit has 3 national tournaments in
format "Closed PSA", which not only help the Portuguese
athletes who are enrolled in this organization (so help then
in the necessary PSA ranking points!), As will certainly
strengthen quantity and quality of the circuit, because
other athletes (international) pass to dispute also our
circuit!
So today begins the Castelo Branco International Squash
2013 (Closed PSA) that promises because the presence of
international athletes.
I obviously highlight the presence of the Portuguese TOP 32
and clearly the presence of two Spaniards Carlos Cornes
and Hugo Varela, respectively the seed nº1 and 2 of this
tournament.
