5th & 6th July:
We've had Ben Beachill, so continuing with the baby theme, last August in Sheffield saw the public debut of the White twins, Sam and Max, who, at the time, were the cause of extreme joy and extreme lack of sleep for John ...

Since last August the White family has moved to the USA - with perfect timing,
here's photos of the twins at their new home on 4th July 2005

MOVING ON TO MOVE UP ?

One of my favourite men on the circuit is leaving the beautiful city of Nottingham to move to the East Coast of the USA.

Why? When? All those questions, and more, were answered by the tall ex-number one John White

When is the “big move” then?

I will be leaving at the end of the season, but our house is on the market, and as soon as it’s sold, Suzy and the kids will leave for the US. We will be about an hour and a half's drive from New York, very near to Suzy’s family (her four brothers and sisters all live less than three hours’ drive from each other).

So, good for the family, what about the squash?

There are a lot of PSA and Super Series tournaments in North America, whereas there are only two in the UK. For example, I’m going to spend the next three months commuting between the US and England. So, if I was in America, I would be able to see my family more often.
I’m also doing a lot of exhibition matches with Peter Nicol over here at the moment, and we’ll be able to do them over there as well. Not to mention that I will play League matches in England when I come over for other tournaments and events.

You've had a very bad period, haven’t you?

Yes, I needed to refocus after Qatar. I had a sore knee, and I had to drop out of Pakistan, but now I think it was for the best. If I had injured myself more badly, it could have meant six months of absence from the circuit. Ricketts has done it, and succeeded in his comeback, but he is much younger than I am! So, I had a six week off period since Qatar. My National League match for Nottingham was my first competitive match since the World Open. I did two exhibition matches with Peter Nicol last week and this Tuesday, but my NL match was my first real contact with competition, and it went as well as could be expected.

Are you finding your marks at last?

The arrival of the twins upset the routine that Suzy and I had for a few years. But I’m refocusing on my training now. I'm working on my fitness with Vaughan Williams, and it's starting to pay off.

I’ve arranged for my training to finish everyday at around 3.30, so I can pick up my two kids who are now at school full time. And since I took the decision to move, I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

How is Suzy dealing with the whole situation?

Well, I felt very guilty about leaving her on her own to take care of the four kids, and although she says she is fine with it, that she can cope, I felt terrible. I would like her to have some time for herself, she loves keeping fit for example, things like that. When we are in the States, she’ll have the support of her family. They are all very close, it’s a big happy family, and it’s great.

Will you still play on the circuit?

Of course! I intend to do long trips away, like Hong Kong, Qatar, Kuwait, English and British Opens, etc, knowing that I will feel much less guilty about leaving Suzy to take care of the kids, as she will have her family all around her.

I enjoy the travelling, I enjoy playing squash, it’s my job, it’s my career, it’s me really. And now that I won’t feel that guilty about it, I’m sure I’ll be able to go up the rankings again. It’s the first time in five years that I’m not in the top ten, not nice.

So, you’ll try and make it back to the top?

You know, I absolutely adored the feeling of being world number one, it was a consecration in my career. I know that a lot of players are up for the spot, Peter Nicol, Lee Beachill, David Palmer, and of course Thierry who is up there at the moment.

But, after dropping that low in the rankings, after moving my whole family once again, if I can make it to the top once again, I know the feeling will be just incredible.

Framboise meets ...

THE WHITES IN SHEFFIELD…
ALL OF THEM !

Boy o boy was I glad when the proud father gave me a ring this morning to let me know that Suzy, Kyra, Tyler, Max and Sam were coming to town…

Did I jump at the opportunity?

So, if you are only interested in pure squash, get away from this page. But if you want to see the two cutest babies ever, keep on looking.

“I was very tired at home for 4 or 5 days, because of the complications that occurred during the delivery of Sam, after Max was born,” said Suzy while feeding the twins. “But then, everything is now back to 'normal', apart the fact that they need to be fed every two hours.”

And both of them!

It’s already so difficult to take care of one new born, but two? That’s why Suzy’s mum, Pat, came especially from the States to help out.

“Well, John was going to be away a lot in August, so Suzy needed some help, and I was glad to be able to be there…”

As Brighton had been cancelled, John has been able to stay at home more than he expected, that way sharing the feeding, the lack of sleep, taking care of Kyra and Tyler, who told me: “They are twins, and it’s two boys.”

Well, I like to be kept informed, don’t I?

I have to say that I was impressed by how different they both look already. Max, the first born is much bigger, and looks on the mother's side of the family, whereas Sam is much smaller, and smiles like John…

And I don’t know how she did it, but 16 days after giving birth to twins, having a very very difficult delivery indeed, breastfeeding two babies, taking care of two others, plus John, she looks radiant, and she is already nearly back in shape.

And you know what?

She has a beautiful family… A beautiful family indeed…
