01-Mar-10:
SQUASH FANS BACK SPORT RELIEF AS
THEY ‘SQUASH-A-MILE!’
Squash
fans around the UK will be lending their support to Sport
Relief by taking part in a one mile shuttle-run this
month, with the chance of winning tickets to the ISS Canary
Wharf Squash Classic Grand Final, which takes place on 26 March
on the all-glass court at the spectacular East Wintergarden
venue.
The challenge consists of a full mile (1.6km) shuttle-run
between the front and back walls of a squash court (9.75 metres
in length). The 165 lengths must include a hand touch at
each end and be witnessed by a playing partner or spectator.
Competitors are asked to attempt the run at their own local
squash club and send through details to claim the unofficial
world record and their tickets to the Grand Final!

Run girls, run ... only 164 to go ....
Tim Garner, Eventis
Tournament Director, has set the challenge with his own time of
8m 53s and encourages squash fans and charity runners
alike to Squash-a-mile! for
Sport Relief.
He said, “With our event running from 22 – 26 March, immediately
after Sport Relief, this year was the perfect opportunity to get
involved in a hugely worthwhile initiative. Hopefully our
challenge will be a fun novelty for all of those who give it a
go!”
“I
know how competitive some of our squash players can be so this
should be a great chance to use that drive for a good cause. I
would advise them to build up to the full mile, as I now know
from experience that it is hard work! I know I will be trying to
shave a few seconds off my time ahead of the event and expect
the top times to come in about the eight minute mark.”
As an incentive, ISS Canary Wharf Classic organisers have
offered VIP Grand Final tickets to the competitor with
the most money raised, as well as giving the opportunity for
some of the fastest participants to get on court with a squash
pro to Squash-a-Mile! on
Finals day in front of a packed crowd.

How many to go now ???
