09-Mar-10:
LADIES HOLD COURT
FOR OPENING DAY
The ISS Canary Wharf Classic returns to the breathtaking East
Wintergarden in Canary Wharf this month, and female squash fans
will be treated to champagne and a MINI prize-draw alongside
world-class sporting action at London’s premier squash event ‘Ladies’
Day’ on 22 March 2010.
To mark the occasion, groups of four or more ladies will
receive a bottle of complimentary champagne from the bar,
whilst the top prize giveaway of a convertible Mini Cooper
for a weekend, provided by Sytner Canary Wharf MINI, will
add to the excitement on the night. With Reebok Sports Clubs –
Canary Wharf also offering attending ladies groups a free
trial membership, there are plenty of reasons to attend!

Whilst not exclusively a ladies-only evening, Tim Garner,
Eventis Event Director, explained the introduction of the
sport’s first Ladies’ Day, “The sport has a good female
following which is sometimes overlooked and we wanted to
demonstrate that attending a high profile event can be a fun
social outing. We see this as the start to building a following
in the same way as Ascot and other sporting events now enjoy.”
“We are quite sure that despite being a men’s only PSA
tournament, the atmosphere, venue and excitement that this major
event creates, will appeal across the board.”
Reigning
British National Women’s Champion, Alison Waters, added,
“Having a female audience at elite events such as the ISS Canary
Wharf Classic is vital to the development of the game. With the
sport booming in the UK and with fantastic events such as this,
it is the perfect opportunity to showcase squash to a wide
audience and hopefully inspire them to play the game on a
regular basis.”
Five out of the six English players present in the world’s top
fifteen will be competing at the ISS Canary Wharf Classic.
Reigning Australian Champion David Palmer will be
welcomed back to the event to defend his title whilst a strong
international draw will also feature recently crowned British
Champion and world number two Nick Matthew of Yorkshire. |
