Top seeds to contest Esporta final

All eight seeds started the day at Surrey H&R, but after two rounds of action it was the top seeds who were left standing.

Defending champion Peter Barker came through the day unscathed, beating Alex Stait and Alex Gough in straight games, and will meet second seed Adrian Grant in the final.

Grant, who won the inaugural event in 2004, overcame evergreen Steve Meads in the quarters before recovering from a game down to beat Jesse Engelbrecht in the evening semi-finals.

Barker aims for Esporta defence

Defending champion Peter Barker is favourite to retain his Surrey H&R title, but faces some stern challenges in a strong draw. England team-mate Adrian Grant is seeded two, with Alex Gough and Joey Barrington seeded to meet them in the semi-finals.

But with Stacey Ross, Alex Stait, Steve Meads and Jesse Engelbrecht as the 5/8 seeds none of the top four can expect an easy passage, especially with tour veterans like Peter Marshall and Tim Garner lurking in the draw ...
