home hopes alive in Aberdeen

Alistair Gorrie reports

With Scots featuring in all four quarter-finals, there was plenty for the home supporters to cheer at Aberdeen SRC in the morning session ...

[1] Peter Billson bt Graham Melvin                11/7, 11/4, 11/7 (33m)

A straight-forward victory for the top seed. Graham showed signs of the squash he is capable of in spells, however under pressure (most of the match) there wasn't quite the same accuracy on his shots. Peter will take some beating based on what has been on display thus far.

[5/8] Jamie Macaulay bt Lyall Paterson      11/9, 12/10, 12/10 (46m)

The two training partners fought out a match you would expect. With both knowing each other's games so well neither player was giving much away. A tough call for Paterson at 10/9 in the first game clearly upset him. It certainly didn't decide the match, but it sure gave Macaulay a head start.

[3/4] Rudi Willemse bt [5/8] Alistair Gorrie            11/7, 4/1 rtd (9m)

Having torn a hamstring only two weeks ago, Alistair was forced to concede the match early in the second game. Rudi will be fresh heading into his semi-final tonight where he will be looking to take out his third Scot of the tournament.

[2] Stuart Crawford bt [5/8] Rory Pennel        11/7, 11/6, 11/7 (38m)

A hugely impressive performance here from Crawford. Midway through the first it was clear who the winner was going to be. Working his opponent into all corners on a regular basis, Crawford put on a display of squash I personally have not seen from him for a long time. Rory will be disappointed not to have taken more from this match however will understand he was beaten by a better player. Simple.
