Luck of the draw
for the Coach ...
The coaches are a big part of any junior events, but when they have
numerous players to look after it's often a matter of luck,
dependent on the schedule, as to how many they can actually watch
playing - and with two venues here, separated by a 15-minute coach
trip, it's often a double problem.
Some have struck lucky - Geoff Hunt had four Qatari boys and
they were all playing at Hallamshire - while others drew the short
straw -Ronnie Vlassecs has four players, two at each venue
while Omar Elborolossy has just two players, one at each.

Jonathan Hill is in charge of a 20-strong Canadian squad, and
they've taken the precaution of bringing two coaches, while Chris
Robertson is a busy man following the fortunes of the 21-strong
welsh contingent.
Some coaches have dual roles - Vicky Botwright is here partly
to watch the English U19 Girls (she and David Campion will be taking
them to India for the World Junior Teams), but is also "sneaking off
to watch my Manchester kids".

Dave
Morrish - here for his tenth consecutive BJO - has seven of his
nine Wycliffe College players at Abbeydale, while Hadrian Stiff's
10-strong Elite Squash Academy squad are based mainly at Hallamshire.
It's unlikely that big boss Chris Nutley will be able to
build coach's watching and travel requirements into the equation
when the draws are done, so for the forseeable future the coach's
lot will continue to be dictated by the luck of the draw ... |
