Egypt in the ascendency, but ...

Semi-finals day in Sheffield produced a preponderance of Egyptian finalists, as expected, but by no means did they dominate proceedings as Malaysia, England, Jordan and Peru also saw players win through to the championship finals.

The youngest U13 age group will feature two all-Egyptian finals, both between the top seeds with only Mohamed El Shamy, the B13 second seed, fully tested as he came from two games down to beat compatriot Ahmed Maged.

Girls U15 top see Habiba Mohamed - the reigning U13 champion - was in impressive form as she despatched Spain's Cristina Gomez, and she faces Malaysia's Siva Subramanian who won 3/2 to reach her first BJO final.

The Boys U15 division will not be won by an Egyptian - Jordan's second seed Mohamed Alsarraj and Malaysia's top seed Eain Yow Ng both beat their Egyptian opponents today.

Yathreb Adel and Salma Hani will replay their U17 final of last year, while the boys' final will see Peruvian sensation Diego Elias, who won a second consecutive five-game marathon to topple another Egyptian seed, take on Mohamed El Gawarhy.

England's Emily Whitlock continued to hold sway over Victoria Temple-Murray as she moved into the girls' U19 final where she will meet Nouran Gohar, who upset fellow Egyptian Mariam Metwally, the second seed, also in straight games.

The Drysdale Cup, the Boys' U19 final, will be between top-seeded Egyptian pair of Mazen Hisham and Fares Desouky who had contrasting wins - Hesham beating India's Mahesh Mangaonkar in straight games, Desouky taking 74-minutes to subdue dynamic compatriot Karim Al Hammany 3-1.
