Paraguay Open 2016
30 May - 04 Jun, Asuncion, $10k

04-Jun, Final:
Salazar beats Pezzota again

It was a repeat of last week's Resistencia final in Argentina, and it was the same result as Mexican second seed Arturo Salazar beat Argentinean qualifier Robertino Pezzota in straight games to claim a second successive title.

"Arturo was too sharp and confident, too good tonight for Pezzota," said an observor.

"Both players, similar style, like to move their opponent to the front then to volley even a good crosscourt. Arturo using the working boast and straight drops better, especially on the backhand.

"The First game even and long till 5-all when a long rally took its toll on the Argentinean. The third game like the second, saw a quick Arturo comanding unil match ball. The defending champ fought back to 8/10 but wasnt enough.

"Arturo was extremely happy, even with some sparkly eyes receiving his trophy (a guampa used to drink Terere or Mate, traditional infusion from South America)."

03-Jun, Semis:
Salazar and Pezzota through to another final

Arturo Salazar and Robertio Pezzota will meet again, just a week after contesting the Resistentia final in Argentina, after bot recorded straight-game wins in the semi-finals in Asuncion.

02-Jun, Quarters:
Zayas comeback stops top seed in Asuncion

Chris Gordon took a two game lead before a stunning comeback from unseeded Mexican Edgar Zayas spelt the end for the top-seeded American.

In the semi-finals Zayas will meet 33-year-old Argentinean qualifier Roberto Pezzota, who continued the fine run of form that saw him rise a massive 279 places in the June rankings, as he beat third-seeded Kiwi Martin Knight in straight games.

No upsets in the botton half of the draw as Arturo Salazar kept up his bid for a second successive tournament win with a quick victory over Juan Gomez to set up another all-Mexican match with Eric Galvez, who beat Jamaica's Chris Binnie in straight games.
