Paraguay Open 2015
18-23 May, Asunción, $10k

23-May, Final:
Pezzota goes one better

Robertino Pezzota won his first Paraguayan Open after losing the final in 2013.

The first game was back and forward Robertino led 4/1 initially but Shawn Deliere went to 8/6 before Pezzota clinching four straight points and the always important first game, as it proved later.

Deliere couldn't back up the two hours fight from the previous day, looking mentally drained more than physically.

It was a very good two weeks for both players anyway, Pezzota achieving a semis and a title as Deliere pocking the Title in Resistencia and the final here in Asuncion.

Paraguay thanks not only the two brave finalists but all the players from 15 different nationalities that set a new records for both events.

22-May, Semis:
Delierre sets new Paraguay record

Shawn Delierre and Muhd Asyraf Azan were involved in the Longest match in the history of the Paraguay Open - perhaps partly due to there being more lets then a match should have, but still it will be page on the book.

The first two games took 50 mins alone, and the fifth game was full of drama too, Azan at 6/2 seemed to see the finish line but a patient Delliere pulled back to tie the score and take the match 12/10 on a stroke after 136 minutes.

Both players were, unsurprisingly, exhausted after the last point.

In the other semi-final Argentinean #1 Robertino Pezzota secured a place in the final for the second time in three years after beating sixth Welshman Peter Creed in straight games.

Seven up in Asuncion

The seventh edition of the Paraguay Open is  under way in Asunción.

All eight seeds made it through to the quarter-finals, where there were upsets in both matches in the top half - Wales' Peter Creed beat fourth seed Todd Harrity and Robertino Pezzotta ousted top seed Martin Knight, both in long three-game matches.

"I felt my weight of length and patience was key today," said Creed. "I kept in every rally and enforced my game from the beginning."

In the bottom half second and third seeds Shawn Delierre and Muhd Asyraf Azan will meet for a place in the final.

Delierre was typically cryptic in his comments: "You know boys today was a fun day to play the great Piedro from the Netherlands, boy can he fire in winners , u just gotta watch them don't touch cuz there so pretty.

"I hung in and waited defending till I finally had a moment to shoot , I was lucky to pull away the last two games."
