seed Camille Serme claimed the WSA $25k Champion Fiberglass
Texas Open title in Houston with a four-game win over defending
champion Joelle King in
the final.
"Great deception and relentless ball retrieving by Serme frustrated
the superb counter play of King who was also firing on all
cylinders," reports Ian Munro.
"Both players' flawless technique was on display in spades and the
crowd was treated to an hour of some of the best squash ever played
in Houston."
Serme's
coach Philippe Signoret was impressed too, simply stating "Camille
is back!".
The win marks the world number ten's seventh WSA title, but her
first outside France for just under three years.

Je suis vraiment contente d'avoir gagné aujourd'hui, mais je suis
aussi contente de mon niveau de jeu sur toute la semaine... Cela
faisait un moment que je n'arrivais pas à reproduire ce que je
faisais à l'entrainement en compétition... Mais cette semaine j'y
suis parvenue !
J'ai été calme et très concentrée sur la tactique à adapter à chacun
de mes matchs. Philippe et moi discutions avant chaque rencontre
pour savoir quelle tactique je devais appliquer et ça a marché à
chaque fois :)
Je suis aussi contente de constater que les choses que nous avons
travaillé à l’entraînement se mettent en place petit à petit. Un
point qui a vraiment été positif était mes amorties à l'avant du
court: j'étais très appliquée et je me concentrée seulement sur mon
geste plutôt que mon adversaire qui arrivait derrière moi, et
finalement, je gagnais le point à chaque fois tellement ma balle
était précise :)
Enfin voilà, c'est un bon moment, que je savoure et qui donne envie
de continuer sur ces pistes de travail!
Peu de repos avant les Europe par équipe mais j'ai hâte, se sera une
bonne compétition!
Merci à Philippe, ma famille, Quentin et mes ami(e)s pour leur
soutien, c'était vraiment une super semaine et je reviendrai au
Texas pour sûr! :)
I forgot how pleasant it was to win a
tournament!
I'm so happy to have won today, but I'm also satisfied with my level
of game this week. It had been a while since I've been able to
reproduce in matches what I produce in training. And this week,
bingo!
I was calm and focused on my game plan for each and every match. My
coach Philippe and myself were chatting about the tactic to adopt
for each of them, and it worked fine...
I'm also glad to see that what we've been working on is slowing
getting into place. In particular, happy with my ability to
concentrate only on what I was doing when playing my drop shots,
instead of minding my opponent getting closer. And each time, I
scored as my shots were pretty accurate.
All that to say that I'm enjoying the moment, and that it's
comforting just before the Europeans, which should be a good
competition, really looking forward to it, and I'm happy to know
that I'm working in the right direction.
Thanks to Philippe, my family, my boy friend Quentin, and my
friends. I'm sure I will be back in Texas, and I really had a great
week.
A cold weather front coming
to Houston did nothing to cool the heat on the show court at The
Downtown Club at the Met, and both semi-final matches in the WSA
$25k Champion Fiberglass Texas Open had the fireworks on tap
tonight.
Even though Samantha Teran would not go quietly into that goodnight,
top seeded Frenchwoman Camille Serme took the Mexican apart
slowly and deliberately with surgical precision for her 3/1 win.
The second offering showed why Joelle King loves coming to
Texas. The fourth-seeded Kiwi's game of power, deception, and never
say die was on full display and out she out retrieved the retriever,
Hong Kong's second seed Annie Au, to win the second contest of the
night, in three close games.

Je pense que nous avons toutes les deux produit du beau et bon
squash: chaque échange était long et le public a vraiment apprécié
notre combativité (d'après ce qu'ils nous ont dit :)
J'ai été assez patiente et j'ai attaqué aux bons moments. Le 3ème
jeu à été décisif je pense, et peut-être qu'elle était un peu
fatiguée de son long match d'hier...
Demain se sera contre Joëlle, un jeu encore différent d'aujourd'hui...
Nous nous connaissons bien des juniors, ce sera une grosse bataille
encore une fois.. :)"

Quarters: Top seeds take their places in Texas semis
Three snoozers and one barn
burner tonight at the Texas Open.
Samantha Teran and Donna Urquhart took themselves and
the ref to the limit in an action packed tempestuous battle of
physical stamina and wits with Teran emerging victorious 12/10 in
the fifth in a battle decided on one or two rallies.
"It was an epic battle," Urquhart said. "It was a great match but it
was a shame to end the way it did."
The Mexican now faces top seed Camille Serme after the
Frenchwoman ended US interest with a straight-game win over Latasha
Khan, while in the bottom half second and fourth seeds Annie Au
and Joelle King both progressed with relative ease.

"Mes 2 premiers matchs se sont passés, je suis assez contente de mon
niveau de jeu.
Mon match contre Maria m'a permis de bien rentrer dans le tournoi,
de bien trouver mes repères sur le court.
Aujourd'hui contre Latasha j'étais un peu plus tendue. Le premier
jeu a été décisif, assez physique, et je pense que ça a été vraiment
bien que je le remporte. Au fur et à mesure j'ai pu me libérer et
rentrer mes shots.
Demain se sera contre Samantha Teran: une grosse bataille en
perpective :)

in Texas turnaround
All the cards fell as
expected tonight in the Champion Fiberglass 2012 WSA Texas Open save
for the match between Sarah Kippax and Lucy Fialova which was
hotly contested, very physical and resulted in Fialova, fresh from
retaining her Czech national title last weekend, coming from 2-1
down to upset the fifth seeded Englishwoman in a real rocker.
Fialova joins seven seeds in the
quarter-finals, where she meets Kiwi Joelle King, the winner
of that to face Hong Kong's second seed Annie Au or Australian
Melody Francis, who both beat American opposition in straight
games.
Home hopes now rest with veteran Latasha Khan, who won a
tough four-game encounter with Victoria Lust and now meets top seed
Camille Serme of France.
The remaining quarter-final pitches together third and fifth seeds
Samantha Teran and Donna Urquhart who, along with
Serme, enjoyed straight-game round one wins.
Qualifying complete in Houston
The fur was flying in Texas
in the final round qualifying of the Champion Fiberglass 2012 WSA
Texas Open with the matches looking more like the Sunday contest for
all the marbles.
Four hotly contested matches culminating in the Adel Weir / Lisa
Aiken clash that not only was the battle for the best on court
costume but the best match of the tournament....so far.

Un petit mot du Texas où je suis en
tournoi avec Camille.
Malheureusement je perds 3.1 sur Deon Saffery au premier tour des
qualifications...
Certes un peu frustrée de faire autant de kilomètres pour un seul
match mais bon ça fait partie des risques à prendre. Je savais qu'il
serait très difficile de se qualifier ici tant le niveau est élevé.
J'ai tenté et ce n'est pas passé.
Je pense cependant avoir fait un bon match, solide, où le résultat
s'est joué à très peu de choses. Et donc, je ne suis pas du tout
démoralisée. J'en profite pour m'entraîner et me confronter à
différentes joueuses avant les Europe qui auront lieu dans une
semaine et demi maintenant.
Je vais aussi en profiter pour aller encourager Camille qui entre en
lice demain après-midi.
