RC Pro 2014
12-15 Nov, St Louis, Usa, $10k
Final:

Top seeds Martin Knight and Ali Anwar Reda met to decide the title at the Racquet Club of St Louis.

In Game #1 Reda was making a concerted effort to move Knight after Knight’s marathon two hour match last night. The tactic initially backfired with Knight taking a 5-2 lead. Three unforced errors from Knight brought Reda back in the game and the movement and control of Reda’s shots start paying off. Reda took the first game 11-8.

Neck and neck in Game #2 all the way to 8-8. There were lots of long rallies culminating in lets and a bit of a chit- chat with the referee. Reda’s errors are starting to make the difference as Knight takes the second game 11-8.

Some great squash by both players in Game #3 as they exchanged points evenly to 8 all, holding at 8-8 for over 10 minutes!! Reda pushes ahead taking the game with some stunning shot making - 11-8.

Reda breaks a string at 7-6 and asks Knight if he has a spare racquet!! A subsequent search of lockers does not locate a matching racquet for Reda so Reda takes Knights racquet and continues the game. Knight closes out the game 11-8

After a change of racquet for Reda, the members found a somewhat matching racquet belonging to a 10 year old!! Reda found his mojo and took the final game 11-5.

The total match time was 125 minutes!!

Semis:

Arthur Gaskin and Martin Knight went at it in this evening’s first semi-final. In an absolute marathon #1 Seed Martin Knight outlasted the #4 Seed from Carlow, Ireland in 118 minutes.

Knight, hailing from North Shore, New Zealand proved his #1 Seed with making just a few less errors than his counterpart Gaskin. Both played exceptionally well. Knight moves on to the finals with an 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-6 victory.

Nary a worry for the Egyptian Mohd Ali Anwar Reda as he went about business on the court in a gentlemanly way ousting the Canadian and #3 Seed Shawn Delierre in four 12-10, 13-15, 11-8, 11-6 in 82 minutes.

The #2 Seed Mohd Ali Anwar Reda will face #1 Martin Knight in the finals tomorrow night just as the experts had mapped out.

Quarters:

Our first lunchtime match started out as if they’d finish at dinner time with the first games splitting and lasting a total of 45 minutes.

After nary a racquet error the match ended after 84 minutes with the top seeded Martin Knight defeating the Canadian Michael McCue 11-5, 7-11, 11-6, 12-10.

The steady Irishman, Arthur Gaskin, continued on to the semis with an 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 41-minute win over Matt Serediak from Toronto. The #4 Seed Gaskin will take on Martin Knight tomorrow in the semis.

In a bruising display of multiple lets the #3 Seed from Canada, Shawn Delierre, moved on to the semis in a 71 minute match over the Englishman Lewis Walters 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.

In the finale for the day we returned to the non-contact sport with some long fluid rallies between #7 Seed Alex Ingham and the Egyptian Mohd Ali Anwar Reda. Ingham, hailing from Chertsey, seemed to hunt every ball down using his size to his advantage with some amazing retrieves.

But the #2 Seed Ali Anwar Reda was too much for him as he went down in four, 17-15, 4-11, 2-11, 5-11.
