Ten up for Frost in Poland
Denmark’s
Kristian Frost notched up his tenth PSA title when he beat
Czech champion Jan Koukal in the final of the Squash Promotion Group
& Heroes Open at the Modelarnia Squash&Fitness Club in Bielsko-Biała,
Poland.
Frost, the World No.76 from Odense, was the top seed in the first
PSA tournament to be held in the Silesia of Poland. The London-born
26-year-old reached the final, the 16th of his career and his second
in a row, after seeing off newly-crowned Dutch champion Sebastiaan
Weenink, the No.4 seed, in the semi-finals.
Koukal, the third seed, earned his place in the 55th PSA final of
his illustrious career after upsetting Richie Fallows, the No.2 seed
from England, in the other semi.
Frost
was in sparkling form in the final, despatching Koukal 11-2, 11-5,
11-8 in 44 minutes in his first straight games win of the
tournament.
"It was a great tournament,” said the new champion.
“The organisation was beyond good. Polish squash is definitely on
the rise and this tournament just proves the potential that lies in
the smaller squash nations in Europe.
“For a $5k tournament, the standard was very high. I am very happy
with the outcome - I played well and picked up my tenth title after
12 months without any success in numerous finals."

Maciej Kliś, Tournament Director
said:
"We had a great week of squash. Many people gathered in a club
everyday were thirsty of professional squash. We combined PSA
tournament with nationwide junior tournament so we gave the
opportunity to our best polish juniors to see squash on this level.
Many of them saw this first time in their lives.
"This was the first PSA tournament in Silesia region in Poland. We
are sure that we will do at least one professional tournament per
year. We are now thinking about 10k PSA tournament next year, maybe
in combination with WSA tournament as well. Squash is growing in
Poland very quickly and we want to promote this discipline hardly in
Bielsko-Biała.
"Big thanks for our main sponsors: Squash Promotion Group, Heroes
and Auto-Boss dealer of Volvo cars."
