It's Dick & Annie again in HK

Repeating their success in last month's Hong Kong National Championships, Annie Au and Dick Lau claimed the Crocodile Cup titles with victories in two all-Hong Kong finals.

Annie, 20 years old and already the world number 17, recorded her third successive victory over top seed Rebecca Chiu to relegate the world number 15 to the runners-up spot she had to settle for last year, and may well overtake her compatriot for the first time in the next issue of the world rankings.

The victory marks a fifth title in seven WISPA finals for Annie, and will be a confidence-booster as she heads to Australia next week to defend her Australian Open title.

The men's final also saw victory for the second seed, with HK champion Dick Lau ending the run from qualifying of Leo Au, Annie's younger brother, in straight games, to claim his second PSA title.

It's all HK in Crocodile Finals

It was a good day for the hosts at the Hong Kong Squash Centre, as four home players progressed to the finals.

Top seed Rebecca Chiu took the full five games to see off 21-year-old compatriot Joey Chan, while second seed Annie Au ended the run of unseeded Chinatsu Matsui in straight games.

In the men's event Annie's brother Leo Au, a qualifier, upset top seed Bradley Hindle in straight games, while HK champion Dick Lau came from a game down to beat another local youngster Max Lee.

10-Jul, Quarters:
Chinatsu charges on
in Hong Kong Challenge

Japan's unseeded Chinatsu Matsui continued her charge in the Women's Crocodile Challenge Cup when she upset sixth seed Olga Ertlova to reach the semi-finals at the Hong Kong Squash Centre - becoming the only non-local player to make the last four.

The 31-year-old from Kawasaki - who made her breakthrough in the first round where she ousted local star Christina Mak, the third seed - beat higher-ranked Ertlova, from the Czech Republic, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.

Matsui will now face newly-crowned HK National Champion Annie Au for a place in the final. Second seed Au defeated fellow Hong Kong player Elise Ng 11-3, 11-4, 11-5.

Top seed Rebecca Chiu and fourth seed Joey Chan will meet in an all-Hong Kong semi after straightforward quarter-final wins. Former Asian Games gold medallist Chiu beat South Korea's Song Sun-Mi 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 - while Chan recorded an 11-2, 11-6, 11-7 victory over unseeded compatriot Liu Tsz-Ling.

Rebecca, Annie & Joey

Australian Bradley Hindle stands in the way of an all Hong Kong line-up in the final of the men's event.

The 28-year-old top seed beat Hong Kong's Wai Hang Wong 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 and will now face a second local player Leo Au for a place in the final. Au beat fellow qualifier Ali Farag, of Egypt, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7.

The other men's semi is the one predicted by the seedings - a domestic clash between second seed Dick Lau and third seed Max Lee.

09-Jul, Round One:
Mixed fortunes for locals in Hong Kong

There were mixed fortunes for local players in the Women's Crocodile Challenge Cup when unseeded Liu Tsz-Ling won an unexpected in the quarter-finals, but third seed Christina Mak crashed out at the recently-renovated Hong Kong Squash Centre..

Liu Tsz-Ling, aged 17, recovered from a game down to beat eighth-seeded Austrian Birgit Coufal 7-11, 11-2, 11-0, 11-4.

It was Japan's Chinatsu Matsui who caused Christina Mak's downfall - the 31-year-old from Kawasaki upsetting the world No44 11-4, 10-12, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9.

Two Hong Kong players also boosted local interest in the last eight of the men's event.

Unseeded Wai Hang Wong beat Canada's No5 seed Tyler Hamilton 13-11, 0-11, 11-8, 11-6 and will now face top-seeded Australian Bradley Hindle for a place in the semis.

Leo Au became one of two qualifiers to reach the last eight unexpectedly when he upset eighth seed Graeme Wilson, from New Zealand, 11-9, 11-3, 11-6
