In the men's final defending
champions Pakistan denied Malaysia a double as they
came from one down to beat Malaysia 2-1, Farhan Mehboob
taking the decider in straight games to give Pakistan their
third straight title.

Semi-Finals:
Malaysia deny India in semis
as HK women reach final

India's Men’s & Women’s team both lost to Malaysia in the
semi final at the Asian Team Championships held in Hong
Kong.
The Indian women were the underdogs and put a gallant fight
but were overpowered by the mighty Malaysians.
Malaysia will face hosts Hong Kong, who beat Japan 2-0, in the women's final.

The Indian Men’s team on the other hand were expected to go
all the way but Saurav our no. 1 player was un-done by
former world no. 7 Ong Beng Hee who put up such a displayed
of sterling squash to which Saurav had no answer. Harinder
Pal Singh lost in a heartbreaker going down 12-10 in the 5th
game.
In the men's final Malaysia meet second seeds Pakistan, who
beat Kuwait 2-0.

Down to the semis in HK
All
four men's quarter-finals finished with 2-0 results at Hong
Kong Squash Centre, with top seeds India, Malaysia
and Pakistan joined in the semis by Kuwait,
who had beaten hosts Hong Kong in the group stages.
Kuwait eased past Japan to reach the semis while Hong Kong
lost out to Malaysia. India and Pakistan enjoyed comfortable
wins over Singapore and Iran.

There was better news for the
hosts in the women's event where Hong Kong capitalised on
their upset win over India yesterday to finish top of Pool
B, setting up a semi-final against Japan, who finished
runners-up to top seeds Malaysia in Pool A.

TWO:
Men's Quarters decided
as HK's women stun India
Day
two of the Asian team champs in Hong Kong saw the men's pool
matches completed, with India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Kuwait
finishing top of their pools.
The women's pool matches continued with top seeds Malaysia
taking a grip on Pool A while Hong Kong beat second seeds
India 2-1 in Pool B.

The Indian men’s won both their matches today at the Asian
Team Championships in Hong Kong to secure the top position
in its pool.
In the morning, India defeated Qatar 3-0 but after the
strong performance from Harinder in the first match, Ahmad
Mohammed Al-Tamimi played superbly against Saurav the Indian
national champ. Al-Tamimi hit some amazing winners from all
parts of the court, winning the 1st game and pushing Saurav
to a tie breaker in the 4th game. Saurav’s speed and
consistency was the deciding factor. Mahesh wrapped it up
for a quick 3-0 victory.
In the evening, India defeated Philippines very easily 3-0.
Saurav rested for the tie, giving Ravi Dixit his maiden cap
at a senior team championship.
India will play Korea in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
The Indian women played hosts Hong Kong who came out all
charged up backed by a vociferous crowd. Anaka Alankamony
was leading 2-0 but was unable to convert her lead going
down in 5 games.
Dipika Pallikal also squandered her advantage going down in
5 games. Dipika although favourite to win did not play upto
expectations while Joey lifted her game beyond expectations.
Joshana won the ‘dead rubber’ 3-1.
Indian girls will play their remaining two pool matches
tomorrow against China & Pakistan.

HK's women off to winning start
but men falter against Kuwait
The first day of the men’s
and women’s pool matches saw most of the favourites complete
their expected victories.
Hong
Kong Women’s Team beat Pakistan and China both 3-0,
and they will meet India at tomorrow in a crucial Pool B
clash.
Top seeds Malaysia started off their Pool A matches with a
3-0 win over Korea, the fourth seeds who also lost 2-1
against Japan who now have hopes of a top four finish.
Women:
Pool A: Malaysia 3-0 Korea, Japan 2-1 Korea, Japan 2-1
Sri Lanka, Singapore 2-1 Sri Lanka.
Pool B: India 3-0 Iran, Hong Kong 3-0 China, Hong
Kong 3-0 Pakistan, China 2-1 Iran.
In the men’s event top seeds India, Pakistan and Malaysia
all won their opening matches but Hong Kong, the fourth
seeds, lost out 2-1 to fifth seeded Kuwait.

Teams head
for Hong Kong
It's a busy summer in Hong Kong, with the HK Nationals
on now, followed by the Asian Team Champs, then the
World Masters in July, and the Hong Kong Open
in August.
The 17th edition of the team champs features 16 men's and 10
women's teams, competing in pool stages from 11th to 13th
Jun, followed by the knockout stages.
