St George's
to host Surrey's
biggest-ever squash event:
The
CLIC Sargent PSA Squash Classic will be the biggest
squash event ever held in Surrey with a $25K prize fund.
Action wil take place at St George's Hill in Weybridge,
Surrey, on the club's permanent all-glass court.
Locals to star at St George's
As well as several St George's members competing as 'locals' in
the qualifying event, there will be several home players in the
main draw too.
Top
seed Daryl Selby, who has played Surrey Cup for 14
seasons for the club, tops an impressive array of local talent
which includes former world no 12 Tom Richards who has
played at St George's Hill since he was 4 years old, and Joe
Lee, who started his squash at the club aged 2.
Charles
Sharpes, who was in the club's junior academy from the ages
of 7-13 is playing as is Henrik Mustonen the finnish
number one who has played PSL in Weybridge for 4 seasons.
Guernsey's Chris Simpson is seeded #2 with Richards #3
and France's Lucas Serme #4. Add these to a high class field of
foreign stars from all over the World and we have a potent
cocktail to be served up for squash fans in the South East.
Surrey Stronghold
Surrey
has one of the biggest, highest standard squash league in the
country. It also has a vibrant, forward thinking committee lead
by Patrick Fleming who is a dedicated, progressive chairman, the
sort of person that squash desperately needs in such positions.
The county committee has a mixture of keen squash lovers and
professionals which preside over a thriving junior section and a
vibrant playing community.
Tournament organiser Danny Lee , who also coaches at St
George's Hill, will be inviting several top former Surrey
players to the event to cheer on the local boys and also so that
they can witness modern top class squash, on an all glass court
close to home. |
