24-Feb-07:
Final: Samantha Teran bt Latasha Khan 9/5, 9/5, 9/3
Teran Takes
Southport Title
The elegant Mexican star,
Samantha Teran claimed the sixth WISPA World Tour title of
her career when she beat USA's Latasha Khan in the final.
The 25-year top seed, the reigning Pan American champion from
Mexico City, maintained her straight games run in the event with
victory over the seven-times US national champion from Seattle.
"It was a great game, but Latasha couldn't find her normal strong
length, allowing Samantha and her aggressive style of play to win
through," said a spokesman for the event.

Qualifiers, 20-Feb:
Adam Walker reports from Southport
Larissa Stephenson bt Olivia Blatchford 9-4, 9-2, 10-8
Larissa was far to strong for Olivia and had to many shots for
the young 14 year old to handle. A more composed Olivia went ahead
in the third to gain an 8-4 lead only to lose to strength and shot
selection.
Victoria Chishimba bt Imelda Salazar Martinez 9-6, 9-5, 9-2
Victoria towered above the young Mexican so it became a game of
strength over shot selection Imelda worked Victoria hard in the
first game but the power of Victoria won through. Imelda was by far
the fitter of the two players but just not quick enough to match the
power of Victoria.
Ileana Novelo bt Ivonne Diaz 9-5, 9-3, 2-9, 9-1
This was a great game to watch Diaz with her speed around the
court and Novelo with her ability to move Diaz around the court.
Novelo went two up but Diaz never say die attitude kept chaseing
every ball to get the 3rd game to push Novelo to a fourth. The hard
3rd took its toll and the 4th was a quick win for Novelo.
Kylie Lindsay bt Nayelly Hernandez 9-5, 9-6, 9-0
The first game of this match was the longest of the tournament
so far, taking over 20 mins to complete. Both girl retrieved some
great shots and got stuck on points for 5 or 6 exchanges of serve,
but Kylie's very steady and more mature movement of the ball got
Nayelly to try for shots that just didn't come off for her. The 9-0
third was a very tidy Kylie shining through.
