LINCOU: NOT YOUR TYPICAL
CHAMPION…
The first time I saw Thierry was at the Super Series Finals in 2003,
where he played, against the Boss [Peter Nicol], without a doubt one of the best
games ever played.
That day, we had a long conversation. Back then, Thierry was world
number five, and when I told him that he had the qualities of a world
number one, he burst out laughing.
He never thought he had the potential to be at the top.
Eight months later, he was world number one.
And that is one of the reasons I do declare I love the man. I like his
fragility, his lack of arrogance, his doubts, his humility. I also
admire his refusal to lose. Thierry is not what you call a typical
winner. He doesn’t care that much about winning. But he hates losing.
And that’s why he is now famous for his comebacks from Hell, and
numerous match ball saves…
A few months ago, I wrote “a French definitive on Thierry Lincou”, and
we published it on our French site. I knew I had to transfer it to the
International site.
The translation was long and painful, but I hope
that thanks to all those documents, little notes, anecdotes, photos,
you will discover a man that you may have a problem not to appreciate.
Enter his world, meet his family, his friends, his team mates… Scroll
around his career, his words, his defeats, his weaknesses, his joys and
victories… And meet a player, a man, a friend, a champion…
Ladies and Gentlemen, Monsieur Thierry Lincou.
