Shaun le Roux dismissed Dutchman Piedro Schweertman in the final of the long-established Ciutat de Barcelona Open to become the first South African winner of the PSA World Tour Challenger 5 squash event at Shopping Center L'Illa Diagonal in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

The UK-based 25-year-old made his breakthrough in the semi-finals. Seeded three and ranked 96 in the world, Le Roux brushed aside world No63 Davide Bianchetti, the Italian favourite, 11-3, 11-2, 11-3.

Unseeded Schweertman also pulled off a major shock in the other semi - battling to a five-game win over second seed Bradley Hindle 11-3, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6.

But there was no holding back Cape Town-born Le Roux in the final as the third seed romped to an 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 victory over Schweertman, ranked 25 places below.

The triumph marks Le Roux's first Tour title success of the year - but the fourth of his career.
 

Shaun has undoubtedly been the great sensation of the tournament. Physically and mentally strong, and with a good tactical game. Very few unforced errors in all matches. If this continues to be among the top 50 ranking. More than 4000 people watched the final in the best Shopping center of the city. Salut Fram Quelques news de ce soir. Lucas a brillamment ouvert les hostilités avec une victoire sans difficulté contre un jeune espoir espagnol. Malgré une légère remonté de son adversaire dans le 2ème jeu, Lucas a su serré le jeu. Son expérience à fait la différence. 3/0 Il jouera Haycocks demain à 13h. C'était à mon tour de jouer. Je prend un bon départ, mes coups rentrent sans trop de problème. Je passe à travers le 2ème jeu, voulant amener mon adversaire trop vite devant (un remake de London..?). Je me suis remis dans le match un peu tardivement, et puis j'ai commis bien trop fautes dans les moments importants, contrairement à mon adversaire qui a du en faire 4 ou 5 durant tout le match, ce qui à fait la différence ! Je perds 11/8 - 11/9 dans les deux derniers jeux. Vraiment déçu par ce tournoi, j'espérais au moins rentrer dans le tableau. Le match de Florent fut moyen. Son adversaire était dans un très grand jour, il l'a bien fait travailler, avec des balles très précises. Florent n'a pas trouvé les solutions qui lui auraient permis de gagner, c'est dommage.

The match was a bit onesided, but Iker is one of the best future players of Spain.

Leandro is a very good player and was too  strong for Florent today.
