18-Jun, Semis:
Boswell taken to the limit move Mexico
Australia's Stewart Boswell dropped the his first games since his
return to the PSA tour as he went 2-0 down to local favourite Eric Galvez
in the semi-finals in Mexico.
After 25 successive 3-0 wins, Boswell lost the first on a tie-break, and
when Galvez took the second 11/5 an upset looked on the cards - even
though Boswell was a qualifier, and Galvez the third seed.
But the former world number four battled back, eventually taking the fifth
11/9 to extend his unbeaten run.
In the final Boswell faces France's second seed Jean-Michel Arcucci,
who beat Canadian opponents in the quarter and semi-finals.
Boswell on a roll in Mexico
The biggest danger in the draw for the Queretaro Open was always likely to be
Australia's Stewart Boswell.
Out for 18 months with a back injury, Boswell returned to the circuit two
months ago, and has won four PSA tournaments in Australia and New Zealand.
Despite being forced to qualify in each of these events, the former world
number four has yet to drop a game in his comeback!
The former world number four, now ranked 83, Boswell still
had to qualify for the 1 star event - but did so in sensational style by
beating local player Salvador Martinez 11-0 11-0 11-0, thus failing to
drop service throughout the match!
Boswell's first round victory over Shawn De Lierre takes him into a
quarter-final against compatriot Raj Nanda, the top seed who beat
Mexican qualifier Mariano Aguilar, with the winner set to face local favourite Eric
Galvez, the third seed, for a place in the final.
