DUNCALF SEEKING CHANGE IN FORTUNES

World number nine Jenny Duncalf is hoping a return to the scene of two memorable triumphs will bring an improvement in her 2014 results at the National Championships in Manchester this week.

The 3/4 seed from Yorkshire has lost in the first round of both WSA Tour events she has entered this year – to England team-mate Sarah-Jane Perry in the Tournament of Champions in New York and to Hong Kong’s Annie Au in the Cleveland Classic.

“I didn’t play well in January but am hoping to get it together for February,” the 31-year-old Duncalf said. “I need to make sure I’m physically in shape.”

The 2007 and 2009 champion is reasonably pleased with her draw for her 11th National Championship as a seed.

“I have a qualifier to play first,” she said. “I should then meet Sarah Kippax and am in Alison Waters’ half – two players I’ve played a fair bit in the Nationals over the years.”

Duncalf rates her chances of a third National title as “good”, but added: "Of course I will have to play well to achieve that.

“A third title would be great. The Nationals rank very highly in my priorities. It’s a great title to have and an event that I am very fond of and feel comfortable at.”
