  TODAY at the CASA Juniors

Fri 18th, Day SIX - Team Semi-Finals

It’s been a day full of terrific squash and drama here at the BSRA with the team event narrowing down.

Previous winners Guyana had to fight hard to keep their title this year with some of the closest matches I’ve ever seen in a Junior CASA.

The girls semifinal between Guyana and Jamaica was full of emotion and nerves with the last three deciding matches all going down to the wire in the U19, U13, and U15 age groups. Despite Jamaica’s best efforts pushing right down to the last point, it was Guyana who took the bout 3-2 in matches.

In the other semifinal Barbados had to start their match with Trinidad &Tobago at an early disadvantage having only brought four girls on the trip. Unfortunately for Barbados on the day they could not overcome their disadvantage and T&T capitalized winning the match up 3-2. Tomorrow’s final will be a rematch of the group stage match with Guyana against T&T, and 3/4th Barbados.

In the boys semifinal Guyana followed after their girl team by beating Barbados 3-2 in a match up that easily could have gone either way. It was the BU17 match that was the turning point between Benjamin Mekdeci (GUY) and Benjamin Griffith (BAR), and at 2-2 it was anyone’s guess who was going to win it.

The boys battled it out going point for point all the way up to 17-15 which was one of the loudest most nerve racking tie breaks I’ve seen, eventually Guyana winning the match on a straightforward stroke.

In the other semifinal Jamaica took on Trinidad &Tobago in another classic loud and entertaining battle. Jamaica eventually pulled off the win 3-2 by showing strong performances in the BU19 and BU19 #2 spots as well as the BU15 who were all finalists in the individual draw.

Tomorrow Guyana will play Jamaica in the final and Barbados will take on T&T in the 3/4th playoff.

Good luck to all the Teams on Finals day here at the BSRA.
