Semi-finals:

Semifinals night here at the BSRA and it disappoint with some great squash from the Caribbean juniors.

The GU13 saw Meagan Best from Barbados and Mia Mahfood from Jamaica both win against their respective opponents 3-0.

In the BU13 we saw another great performance from the #1 seed Khamal Cumberbatch from Barbados beating Shomari Wiltshire from Guyana 3-0. He will contest the final tomorrow against Kai Bentick from OECS who fought off a crafty Anaya Smith from Bermuda 3-0.

The GU15 also sees both the #1 seed Amanda Haywood and #2 seed Alexandria Yearwood make it past their semifinals with fairly straight forward 3-0 wins.

The BU15 saw the #1 seed Jonathan Walker from Jamaica come from a game behind to beat Isaiah Robinson from the Cayman Islands 3-1. On the other half of the draw saw a very strong performance from Josiah Griffith of Barbados take down bermudian Dylan Pratt 3-0.

The GU17 again saw two very strong performances from the top 2 seeds Larissa Wiltshire and Alyssa Mullings winning 3-0. Tomorrow should make a strong final seeing as both girls have recently become top players on their senior teams.

The BU17 semis had one of the most dominating performances of the day after Julian Jervis from the Cayman Islands took out Benjamin Mekdeki from Guyana only dropping 3 points in the entire match. In the other semifinal Jason Doyle from OECS had to fight against Chad Salandy of T&T to eventually pull off the win 3-1.

GU19 saw a focused performance from Charlotte Knaggs of T&T take out Victoria Arjoon from Guyana 3-0, and a tough win for Akela Wiltshire also from Guyana against Mary Jo Mahfood from Jamaica 3-1.

Saving the best matches for last saw a close 3-0 win from Julian Morrison against Nku Patrick in the BU19 despite the very loud support out of the T&T team.

Then in the upset of the night Jake Mahfood took out the #2 seed from Guyana 3-2 in a highly anticipated battle which didn’t disappoint.

Tomorrow should make for great finals in every age group.

Day TWO Report (part one):

Day 2 of Junior CASA 2014 has kicked off this morning with the quarterfinals in each age group followed on this evening by the semifinals.

The GU13 age group saw strong performances from the top seeds to pull of 3-0 wins as well as an upset from a newcomer to Junior CASA, Jade Pitcairn from the Cayman Islands. Jade had a battle to get past ¾ seed Mia Lake from Jamaica, winning 3-2 in a match that really could have gone either way. A great start for the newcomer in her first CASA.

The BU13 age group saw clinical performances from the top 4 seeds to make it through all their matches 3-0. The top seed Khamal Cumberbatch especially, who had to be at his best to beat newcomer David Pitcairn in straight games.

In the GU15 there were two strong performances from Trinidad and Tobago in the likes of Marie-Claire Barcant and Alexandria Yearwood both winning 3-0. As well as an emotional battle between Rebecca Low from Guyana and Sarah Conway from Jamaica, with Rebecca taking the win 3-2.

The BU15 had some close matches and some gutsy performances from the top 4 seeds to make it through into the semifinals. Dylan Pratt and Isaiah Robinson, both fighting hard to pull off tight wins against their respected opponents.

The BU17 and GU17 age groups saw no upsets this morning with all top 4 seeds in both groups making it through into the semifinals tonight.

The GU19 had the battle of the morning between Emma Keane of Bermuda and Victoria Arjoon of Guyana. Victoria went 2-0 to only have Emma battle hard to come back to level it at 2-2. The crowd squeezed in for the fifth game screaming for both girls to win, eventually Victoria saving match balls to win 13-11.

The BU19 held the strongest performers on the day with all top 4 seeds winning comfortably 3-0 and ready to battle it out this evening in tonight’s semifinals.
