A new event on the PSA circuit, the Evergreen Open in Vancouver is the PSA tour's only stopover in British Columbia this season, and for a $6k event attracted a strong draw.

16-Jan, FINAL:
[1] Ben Garner (Eng) bt [4] Matthew Giuffre (Can)
      11/3, 11/9, 11/8

Garner Grabs
Evergreen Glory

Ben Garner captured his first PSA title for over three years when he dashed hopes of a home victory by beating Canada's Matthew Giuffre in straight games in the final.

Having taken the first two games, Garner looked to be cruising to victory at 8-2 in the third, but was pegged back to 8-7 as the crowd urged the local favourite's comeback attempt.

But Garner, the world no 46, who had been struggling with flu symptoms all weekend, reasserted his game to take the title for his second career victory.

Thanks to Tim Garner for news of the later stages - Ben rang his big brother before going to collect the trophy!

"It's been a tough weekend, with four matches in 48 hours, but it's great to start the year with a victory."
