Elshorbagy tops brutal Men's Draw
The
draw for the sixth El Gouna International has been made, and
while Egypt's defending champion and world #1 Mohamed
Elshorbagy is top seed, the first round features a number of
brutal clashes.
Elshorbagy faces Mathieu Castagnet, the Frenchman who
until a recent injury was well inside the world's top ten; 7th
seed Marwan Elshorbagy meets fellow Egyptian and former
world #3 Omar Mosaad; the resurgent James Willstrop,
seeded #6, faces Colombia's Miguel Rodriguez; 4th seed
Nick Matthew meets world #11 Fares Dessouky in a
repeat of their Canary Wharf final; Ali Farag faces the
fast rising Peruvian Diego Elias; Simon Rosner and
Borja Golan meet in an all-Europpean battle; and world
champion Karim Abdel Gawad renews his rivalry with
Zahed Mohamed.
These early encounters are a byproduct of the PSA policy of
seeding just 8 in the men's draw, compared to 16 in the women's.
There are ten Egyptian players in the main draw, and
there's a good chance that number will be boosted after the
qualifying competition, which takes place at the new El Gouna
Squash Centre on 5th and 6th April, alongside the Women's PSA
World Championship. |
