25-Jun, Final:

[2] Ritwik Bhattacharya bt Siddarth Suchde
      11-5, 11-5, 11-7 (41m)

Ritwik Romps to Chennai Title

India's top-ranked player Ritwik Bhattacharya finally ended the run of compatriot Siddarth Suchde as he claimed the title with a straight games win at the India Cement courts in Chennai.

Siddharth didn't look like he had recovered from hour-plus matches in the previous two days. Ritwik took advantage of the situation and had Sid running all over the court from the very first point.

Ritwik looked like a man possessed, there to accomplish a mission and he did it in style, claiming his fifth PSA title and maintaining his 100% record in finals.

"I knew he liked to rally. I decided on pushing him back and test him in the front court,'' Ritwik told The Hindu on his successful ploy.

Suchde admitted, "the two earlier prolonged matches of mine left me very tired and I could not get going.''

Reports from the Hindu:

Well it's great to win a Super Satellite event finally! Been working hard and am now setting my sights on winning a 1 star event.

I absolutely love playing at home in India. The ICL complex and the 4 wall court here in Chennai is amazing.

Indian squash is on a high and the level of juniors in the country is of a very high standard. But most importantly the 5-6 Junior PSA members who just joined the PSA tour held their own in the tournament against the foreign players which was a first for Indian squash.

Looking foward to a short break and then some hard summer training now!!!!

Cheers
Ritwik Bhattacharya

24-Jun, Semis:
Now Suchde Stuns Shuja

"Full credit to him for the way he came back and tired me out.''  Khasif Shujah

"Shuja momentarily lost focus and I cashed in on that."
Siddarth Suchde

India's Siddarth Suchde continued his winning run in Chennai, adding top seed Khasif Shuja to the string of seeds to have fallen at his hands, with a five-game semi-final win in 61 minutes.

In the all-Indian final the Harvard student enjoying his summer holidays back home, plays second seed Ritwik Bhattacharya who beat young Dutchman Dylan Bennett in four games.

The final will be Suchde's first, while Bhattacharya will be aiming to maintain his 100% record in finals and collect his fifth PSA title.

23-Jun, Quarters:
Suchde Shocks Saurav

There will be two Indians in the semi-finals of the Chennai Open, but while Ritwik Bhattacharya, the second seed, claimed his expected spot, Siddarth Suche surprised Saurav Ghosal, the 2004 finalist, to set up a match against top seed Khasif Shujah, who overcame Hungary's Mark Krajcsak in four games.

Bhattacharya faces Dylan Bennett, who spoiled hopes of an all-Indian semi-final, ending the run of qualifier Ayappan Parbithan in straight games.

22-Jun, Round One:
Indians Progress in Chennai

Top Indian hopes Saurav Ghosal and Ritwik Bhattacharya were joined in the quarter-finals of the Chennai Open by compatriots Siddarth Suchde and Ayappan Parbithan, who both beat seeded players in the first round.

Top seed Khasif Shuja reached the quarters with one of the closest 3-0 wins on record - 11/9, 12/10, 19/17 - against Korean qualifier Kin Sung Young.

21-Jun:
Fantastic day for Indians
Cyrus Poncha reports from Chennai

The qualification rounds of the 3rd Chennai Open ended today at the ICL Squash Academy. Out of the four Indians vying to make it to the main draw two succeeded.

Chennai based A.Parthiban and Harinder Pal Singh played a sound basic game laced with attacking shots to beat their respective opponents - Chin Jun Woo (Korea) and Manek Mathur (India). With the two of them qualifying we now have six Indians in the main draw. The other Indians who have qualified on merit are Ritwik, Saurav and Siddharth. Sandeep was granted a wild card by the organisers.

This is only the 2nd PSA event for Parthi,Sandeep and Hari and it is nice to see them make the main draw

Nasser B Al - Ramzi and Kim Sung Young were the others making it to the main draw.
