5/7 Semis :
W Bermuda 5-0 OECS
(winner v Jamaica)
M Bermuda 3-2 Cayman
(winner v OECS)
Favourites through to Finals
Semi-finals night at South Sound Squash Club, with all four
matches - plus two 5/7 playoffs matches for good measure -
taking place at the same time was hectic, noisy, and an exciting
place to be as the favourites triumphed in all four semi-finals.
In
the women's matches defending champions Guyana took the first
three ties against T&T in fairly quick time, and that was the
end of the match.
Meagan
Best got Barbados off to a good start against hosts Cayman, and
Alex Jordan edged the second in five to put Barbados within
touching distance. Karen Meakins beat long-time rival Marlene
West in the top string to put Barbados through to another final,
5-0 in the end. Jamaica
- seeded four due to their sixth-place finish last time but
everyone's favourites for the title - quickly despatched
Barbados to reach the men's final with individual champion Chris
Binnie winning the decisive third rubber, and finished it off
5-0.
Trinidad
and Tobago, the other group winners, quickly went 2-0 up against
Guyana, and although Sunil Seth pulled one back there was no
stopping Josh Pinard in the fourth match as T&T rounded it off
3-1.
There was a Bermuda double in the 5/7 playoffs as the men beat
Cayman 3-2 to reach the 5/th/6th final against OECS, and the
women beat OECS 5-0 to set up their 5th/6th match against
Jamaica.
The finals, 3/4 and 5/6 playoffs are at 09.00 tomorrow, with the
final Vets matches at 12.00.
Apologies for the brevity of the report, but six matches at a
time proved just impossible ...
Trinidad
and Tobago made sure of their place in tonight's semi-finals as
they took the first three matches against OECS to top the group
with three wins out of three. That means that Barbados finish
second and will face Jamaica tonight.
The
other men's deciding match was much closer with Guyana and
Bermuda sharing the first two matches, but Guyana took the next
two - both in five games - to lead 3-1 and reach the semis.
Defending
champions Guyana completed the women's semi-final lineup as they
beat Bermuda 4-1.
In the vets Bermuda beat Guyana 3-2 - despite trailing 1-2 in
matches actually played, and Barbados made it four wins out of
four with a 5-0 win over Jamaica.
T&T
inflicted a first defeat on OECS with a 3-2 win that makes the
top of the vets table very tight.
In the afternoon Cayman finished with a 3-2 win over Guyana (1-2
on court), while Barbados came from 1-2 down to beat OECS,
maintaining their unbeaten run and setting up a decider with T&T
tomorrow.
