Morning Matches
Mixed
fortunes for hosts Cayman in the morning matches as their Vets
beat last year's runners-up T&T in the decider, but the men's
team lost out 2-3 to Barbados - Cameron Stafford and Mark
Chaloner winning at #1 and #2.
Barbados Vets notched up their second win as they beat Bermuda
4-1, and OECS got off the mark with a 3-2 win against Guyana
(one-all in matches actually played).
Afternoon Matches
Defending
women's champions Barbados started off with a 4-1 won over OECS,
for whom Daniela Schumann avenged her semi-final defeat against
Karen Meakins, beating the newly-crowned champion 11-9, 11-7,
11-5!
The T&T girls started off even better with a convincing 5-0 win
over Jamaica.
Jamaica's
men, seeded at #4 despite fielding the top two seeds from the
individual event (they finished sixth last year and the rules
only allow you to be moved up two places from that) were
grateful that men's champion Chris Binnie came through 11-3 in
the fifth against Sunil Seth as they went on to win 3-2 against
top seeds Guyana.
Evening matches
After
the opening ceremony, matches continued with all three Cayman
teams in action.
Cayman Vets lost their unbeaten record as they went down 2-3 to
OECS, losing out in the decider. In other Vets matches T&T beat
Bermuda 3-1 and Jamaica won on points countback against Guyana -
the match finished 2-2 with neither team having a W50 player.
Cayman's
ladies team recovered from losing the top two strings against
Bermuda, Jackie Geils winning the decider at fourth string.
The men were also taken the distance, OECS pegging them back
after Cayman's top pair had again won, and once again it was the
visitors who took the decider.
Team action continues tomorrow, and by the end of the day we
should know the semi-final lineups ... |
