Under way at South Sound          WATCH LIVE

It was a busy day at South Sound Squash Club, with three rounds of play in the Men's and Women's draws over six courts, plus the start of the consolation events too.

Evening - Last Sixteens

The evening matches went pretty much to the seedings, with fourteen of the top seeded players making their way through to the quarter-finals without too much trouble.

The exception in the men's draw is Bermuda's Noah Browne who followed up his morning upset with a 3-1 win over Julian Morrison, also unseeded.

His reward is a match against defending champion Chris Binnie.

The story in the women's draw is all about Meagan Best, the 13-year-old from Barbados who produced two upsets today, both of them in five games as she followed up her afternoon win over 3/4 seed Claire Roscoe with an equally tight victory over 9/16 ranked Ashley Degroot.

"I was a bit surprised to win this afternoon," said a delighted Meagan, who recently won the Caribbean U15 title at home in Barbados.

"And I lost last time I played Ashley but then she beat me on fitness and I've worked on that. At 3-8 down in the fifth I thought it might be over but I managed to get it back, so I'm really happy to be in the quarter-finals!"

Morning Reports

There were a couple of upsets in the early morning matches - Guyana's Jason Khalil came from two games down to beat 9/16 seed Jules Snagg, and Amanda Heywood, the Caribbean U15 Badminton and U17 Squash Champion, beat 9/16 seed Jackie Giels in four close games.

The narrowest escape from a seed came when 9/16 Rhea Khan had to save a match ball before beating Alex Jordan 12-10 in the fifth. "That was too close, I should concentrate on the vets," said Khan.

Men's round two saw more upsets, the biggest coming as Jamaica's Julian Morrison beat 5/8 seed and 2007 champion Gavin Cumberbatch 11-9, 12-14, 11-3, 11-5.

"I'd never played him before, but my coach told me to keep the pace high and go for the corners, and I managed to do that so I'm delighted with the win."

Gavin was the highest-ranked of four Cumberbatch brothers, none of whom made the last sixteen. While 13-year-old Khamal recorded a good first round win, second seed Lewis Walters, playing his first CASA, was too strong in the next round. 9/16 Rhett lost out to OECS's Jason Doyle in four games while Bryant went out to former champion Richard Chin.

Also making this evening's third round against the seedings are Jamaica's Bruce Burrowes and Bermuda's Noah Browne, who beat 9/16 seeds Shawn Simpson and Nku Patrick.

They play each other, with the winner likely to face Chris Binnie, should the defending champion get past Khalil in the third round.

The last men's match of the afternoon session was one of the closest, Jamaican 9/16 seed Ashante Smith surviving 11/9 in the fifth against Paul Deverteuil to complete the men's last sixteen.

The last match of the women's afternoon session brought about the biggest upset yet as Barbados' Meagan Best beat Cayman number one and 3/4 seed Claire Roscoe 11/9 in the fifth!
