19-Jan,
Semi-Finals:
One home winner - at least
A home victory
in the men's event was guaranteed when top seeds Dick Lau and
Max Lee came through their semi-finals against Matthew
Karwalski and Leo Au. And it could still be a double as Defending
champion Rebecca Chiu dismissed Sarah Kippax in straight
games to set up a final against top seeded Irishwoman Madeline
Perry.
18-Jan,
Quarter-finals:
Au ousts Wong in Hong Kong
Hong
Kong junior Leo Au caused the upset of the day in the
quarter-finals of the Buler Cup at the Hong Kong squash centre as he
upset fourth seeded Wai Hang Wong, the national number two, in a
lengthy four game battle.
He
plays fellow-junior Max Lee in the semis, while HK champion
and top seed Dick Lau meets Australian Matthew Karwalski
for a place in the final. Karwalski prevented an all-HK semi-final
lineup as he prevailed in five games over Anson Kwong while Lau
eased past Sri Lankan Navin Samarasingh in straight games.
The women's event sees two home players in the semi-finals, but no
upsets here as the top four seeds all won through. Top seed
Madeline Perry will face Christina Mak, both winning
their quarter-finals in straight games, while defending champion
Rebecca Chiu, who overcame BJO runner-up Annie Au in four games,
meets England's Sarah Kippax.
