BSPA title ...
Injuries and weather gave the inaugural UK FAST Manchester Open a different
look before it even started.
The snow that disrupted travel over much of the UK claimed a few casualties
in Thursday's qualifying matches, and the withdrawals of top seeds Nick
Matthew and Daryl Selby caused more problems.
Fortunately able replacements were on hand in the form of Stewart Boswell
and Steve Coppinger, and the Australian is safely through to Saturday, which sees the
quarter and semi-finals take place at The Northern.
In the top half
Boswell beat Carl Hamson, winner of two marathons on Friday, while
Joel Hinds, Coppinger's conqueror last night, continued his fine run
as he beat Ben Ford.
In the other quarters two Mancunians had plenty of support as tournament organiser
Pete Billson beat former European Junior Champion
Chris Simpson, but Nick Taylor's run came to an end against Scott Handley.
